I think the '69 F-100 fits you to a 'T'. If you had it now, kids would ask you if you were the original owner. I've been asked that in my GTO's before.

I paid $100 for the F100 back in the late 80's for a New York State "winter rat". The PO was a drunk, had lost his license and let the truck sink into his backyard. I trailered it home, put in new brakes, repacked the front wheel bearings. The original "three on the tree" shifter was a mess, so I put in a $60 Hurst shifter on the floor. There was a ton of trash in the passenger compartment. I nearly filled the bed of the truck with empty whiskey bottles, cigarette packs, and other crap. He had a slab of granite from an old toilet stall in the bed, which I kept in there for traction weight. There was moss growing out of the rust holes in the front fenders, so washing the exterior was a waste of time. Baby Doll refused to ride in it. |

You actually owned a truck that used to belong to Large Slob? That's almost as cool as owning Jon Voight's Chrysler LeBaron (Seinfeld reference). |

Hey Yadkin! Check this out. Found this in my basement. Can you believe some idiot used a soup can to hold up this laminate beam? The ****ing thing is holding up half my living room. Probably some pointy-headed guy with a worthless college degree. Why, I bet he could learn a lot from Large Slob on how to actually build stuff.

Not sure what kind of soup it held, but I thought I detected a faint whiff of mulligatawny.

One better than that, 5 years ago I had a kid ask me if I was the original owner of my 1957 Corvette. I said how old do you think I am, if someone was 16 when they bought it new (and I assume the average age of a new Corvette buyer in 1957 was likely at least 25 or older) I would have to be 78. I was 68 at the time. When I explained all of this to him he said “oh, yeah.”

When I had a house built in rural Southern Maryland and was traveling too much to monitor things closely it was a f*ckin' disaster. The bubba builder spanned a 17' stretch with a composite beam directly under the kitchen appliances and a 2" crack developed at the top of the kitchen wall where it meets the ceiling - really, how much would another support "pier" on that span have cost ? $75 at the time ?
Then there was 5"-8" of standing water under the foundation. Took the threat of law suit to get things straightened out and one of my best days was when I sold the place 3 years later. |
