Default New sneakers on the goat and brakes on the way

I know many won't like the wheels but Cragar doesn't make the wheel size I need in an 18" so I got as close as I could. They're growing on me.

Mrs. Simpleman took this cell shot in front of one of our regular restaurants.

Wilwood tech support was great and they guided me through all the necessary fitment issues.
Wound up having to pull the axle to measure shaft bore and flange backspacing.
First time I've used a micrometer in some years.

Got the 6 piston calipers for the front and 4 piston for the rears. 12.8" rotors

Full suspension kit next up.

Looks pretty good.

I didn't get a text or phone call so you must have remembered how to read the mic

Nice. Put the same setup on the 71 Vette. Manual setup, and it stops 10× better than stock.
Congrats, beautiful ride....

SWEET car, I used to be a Poncho fan for many years.....put DPFI on a 462 inch Poncho with #96 heads and highly modified aluminum intake 1000 cfm throttle body....long ass Poncho iron headers....with cut outs......in my '70 Lemans convertible....12 bolt chevelle rear, 400 trans, disc brake conversion, quicker steering camaro box, tricked out all the rest too.....

I ran 89 Trans Am wheels, still have one left over.....had a 26 gallon Caddy tank in back, complete with license plate filler location....

Blue with a white top/interior.....

I on the FB old Poncho B body group,.....I suppose they have one for Goats too....

Looking good man!

I was thinking about going with the Wilwood setup when I had my C3, but I ended up going with stock calipers with o-rings (instead of the stock lip seal type) from Van Steel. In retrospect, I probably should have.

Anyway, nice!

The wheels look good. I did prefer the Cragars, but you did well with the choice you made. It's most important that it looks good to you.

Good choice!!

Also, nice job remembering how to use/read a micrometer. This skill escapes many who try!

Thanks for not raggin' on my choice of wheels guys.

Got the full suspension kit from QA1 ordered today along with a new steering gear box and upgrade kit.

coilover shocks
control arms upper/lower
sway bars (33mm front and 26 rear)
trailling arms
tie rods

Really stoked to get it all installed. I'm hoping to have everything done before going in for the powertrain swap end of the year.

That's gonna make such a difference.
When all of that stuff arrived for my '79 Vette, it was like Christmas.
When it was all on, it was like night and day.

Scott. That land yacht should handle pretty good after all of that added. Like the big brake package too. s that a 66 or 67?

It will be substantial since the suspension is all original and very worn.
The rest of the car is near mint and always garage kept but the underpinnings are toast.

Got the new steering box with the same turn ratio as the early Z28s and a full rebuild kit for the steering arms.

She was ordered with manual brakes so it will be a big "boost" to have power brakes with monster rotors.

You are going to love that quick ratio steering box. It will really accent the rest of the suspension package.

Back when I had my 69 Camaro ( late 80s), I got big tube Hooker Headers. Turned out they hit the power steering box. ( No note or disclaimer in the info )

A phone call to Hooker revealed they were designed to work with the manual steering box. I remembered seeing a "for sale" 3x5 card at Shisler Speed Shop on Main St Souderton.

I went back there and sure enough, the dust covered card was still there. I gave the guy a call and he still had the manual steering box. I drove over to his house ( Ridge Rd above Sellersville ) and we went to garage.

He opened the garage door and there sat a mint 69 Z/28 Very nonchalantly I asked if the steering box came out of the "Camaro". He said he put power steering in it so his GF could drive it.

I purchased the quick ratio steering box, an almost new ACCEL electronic distributor and a pair of header mufflers for $50 ( his asking price )

So I'm guessing she's just going to remain a fun street car? Picking suspension elements, especially sway bars, from a kit will just give you a baseline. Ultimate handling can't be identified until you have the base and then adjust from there. The rear sway bar might be too close to the front sway bar to induce massive oversteer.

Again, I know you go in straight lines...I zig zag. Lotta variables you can change to make that Goat a handling dream.

Nice score back in the day before computers. I remember ripping off lots of phone number tabs but didn't come up with the funds to be able to make the call.

400 with a Rochester 4BBL and I think the 4 speed is a Muncie but haven't gone underneath to run the #s.

Long been in love with the body design of the '66-'67. Sidelines have the profile of a coke bottle and just look like old school US muscle should.
