Railroaders are generally sane......
Short Line engineer tries to ram Navy hospital ship
Generally. I know the owners of this company. Like they don't have enough sh*t to deal with at the minute. |

Damn, second time this week:
https://www.thevettebarn.com/forums/...d.php?t=122178 When I was in college, I dated a girl whose dad was a railroad engineer in Montana. Never got to meet him though. |

It didn't look like it did that much damage, thankfully. The biggest cost will be fixing the concrete and moving the locomotive and boxcar back to the tracks. I wonder, did the wheelsets on the equipment suffer damage from that? Seems like they're pretty durable.

Even if the two cars were “totaled” with the depreciated value of a typical car you are looking at maybe? $100k max. Article isnt clear if the $600k is just the damage to the cars or cars plus lading or cars plus lading plus some supplemential damage. I guess if the impact knocked over a bilevel carrying new F150s and they all hit the ground you could be there

Problem is, you never know when someone is going to lose a screw. It can happen at any job at any time. That said, I don't want someone driving a 200 ton locomotive to come unglued on the job. Everyone got lucky on this deal physically. Could have been really bad.
