A tangent to be sure, but the Snowden haters seem to be fixated on the fact that Snowden fled the US after blowing the whistle, and fled to countries generally considered to be unfriendly to the US. One look at what Uncle Sam is doing and trying to do to Zimmerman explains why that isn't a sign of Snowden's guilt, or hatred for the US, it's a sign that the guy is pragmatic. If our government is willing to persecute innocent people (like Z-Man) on a whim, maybe it's time to get out of town when you make that same government look bad by telling the unspeakable truth of what that government is doing to its citizenry.

Interesting that X decided not to revisit Pasadena, where he and his posse got unceremoniously run out of years back after the Joe Horn shooting.

If I were the defense, I'd STFU and leave well enough alone - like tell my client to go buy a new gun, instead of asking for the alleged murder weapon back so soon after the trial. If the dude really fears for his life (and he probably should), he's gonna need something a little bigger and more accurate that a PF-9. Maybe I suck, but at 20 feet I'm lucky to be center of mass with mine. Strictly an up close and personal gun, IMHO.

Feds put hold on return of George Zimmerman's gun

SANFORD - The U.S. Department of Justice has placed a hold on all evidence related to the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin by former neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman, Sanford Police Capt. James McAuliffe confirmed Thursday.

The hold includes the gun Zimmerman used to shoot Martin, which Zimmerman would otherwise be legally entitled to reclaim.

Zimmerman, 29, was acquitted in Seminole County Court last weekend of second-degree murder and manslaughter charges after claiming he fired his weapon in self-defense after Martin attacked him in February 2012.

Since the verdict, the Justice Department said it would investigate whether Zimmerman violated Trayvon Martin's civil rights by racially profiling him. The investigation is expected to take months.

Martin was black, and Zimmerman identifies himself as Hispanic.

No evidence surfaced in the trial that Zimmerman had a racial bias, and his friends and family have repeatedly denied he harbored racial animosity toward blacks.

Florida did not use its own hate crime laws against Zimmerman.

Legal experts have said the FBI and prosecutors will go back through interviews done before the state case began; look at all the forensics such as crime scene records and medical reports; and review the state's witnesses to see if any who did not testify might have important information. Federal investigators are not limited to existing evidence.

Several civil rights groups, including the NAACP, are demanding that the Justice Department bring federal charges against Zimmerman, and there have been numerous protests around the country about the verdict.

The Rev. Al Sharpton has organized the Justice for Trayvon National Day of Action for Saturday. Rallies are scheduled in 100 cities - including Tampa - calling for civil rights charges against Zimmerman.

Not preventing him from getting another, though. On the one hand, I can understand the feds not wanting to break the chain of custody. On the other hand, if the feds aren't careful they might get their asses handed to them also which would be embarassing on a truly epic scale.

I don't think it's legal/constitutional for the feds to demand anything like that....be ME, I"d return the gun anyway....eff em.....

?? So long as they are within the statute of limitations to charge, they can (and should) hold all evidence.
