Rules are rules. When things are THAT competitive, every tiny minute detail matters.

The "big" infraction that Penske just got hit with similar penalties for amounted to nothing more than a hole in a bracket being slightly out of round. It was so close in fact that the individual part passed (but the assembly failed).

The 12 car... with the SAME PARTS actually passed because they were assembled a few hundredths from how the 22 and 2 were.

I just think it sucks that Kenseth gets hit with such a hard penalty. What is he suppose to do go weigh everything before each race to make sure there isn't a screw up? He's there to drive.

It's a TEAM, as goes one part, so does the other. They tear down all winners, and this is a pretty rookie mistake in my mind. He should have lay back to second!

Eh I still think any driver (unless it's Kyle)shouldn't get hit with a chief mistake. But that's just my opinion.

Not pushrods.......it was for light connecting rods, and yes the motor will rev faster with lighter ones......

Exactly....There are 28.35 grams in an ounce so we are talking about 3/28ths of an ounce.This,as you say was probably a balancing error and did nothing to improve performance,in fact probably acted as a detriment.

I'm wondering if there is more to this story................

When the competition is that tight, EVERY little bit matters. The rules are very clear with absolutely zero ambiguity in this case. They were out of spec. They got caught.

With regards to the sourced engine, it would be 1 thing if it was a NASCAR mandated purchase, but it isn't. For instance Robbie Gordon's team bought a NASCAR mandated nose last year (maybe 2 ago) that failed tech. They were allowed to swap the part with no penalty.

The Toyota teams get the engines from TRD, as in from Toyota and I guarantee that JGR has a LOT of influence within TRD. It is not like they got it from an open source that supplies engines to everybody...
