Default So a dump truck fuct up the windshield on my company car...

I was driving through Augusta GA and a dump truck was merging on the highway ahead of me and a rock that i assume was wedged in the threads broke loose. Now i have a good 3-4 square inch chip in the glass. I actually thought the window was gonna blow out it hit so hard.

The truck wasn't running a rear tag but i pulled up next to him and got a picture with my phone of the door with the DOT# on it.

Lost cause or what? Hate to see the company pay for it if i can avoid having to do so. At the same time, shit does happen on occasion..

How should i handle this? Can i go after the trucking co and get their insurance to cover it? Discuss..

Contact the trucking company and see if they cover the replacement. It's the driver's responsibility to make sure his truck does not have any debris which can be thrown from the tires.

If they balk, contact the police ( since you have a picture of the DOT number) and last , contact your insurance company to see if they will go after them.

I had this happen on my home from paying my insurance bill

I called my insurance company as I was attempting to chase/catch the truck and they said "don't bother, you have zero deductible"

Why should you care more than your company? Just let them decide how they want to pay for it.

Back when I had my vette and it was still really really pristine clean...I was sitting behind a stopped school bus and some asshole was mowing grass on the side of the road and threw up a chunk of asphault that bounced off my hood and glass.

i didnt see any chips so i continued on...I got home (about a mile down the road) and I get out and see 3-4 chunks of my red paint are gouged to the black hood material, and the glass is busted down near the cowl.

I went back, he was still mowing, blowing shit all over the road...he denied it, told me to leave or he would call the cops.

I shoulda burned his house down...

Naturally it hit right in front of the driver. In SC we have a zero deductible for windshields. I hope that's the case in GA.

in KY windshields are zero deductible and not counted as a claim on your insurance

Not the case here unless the policy is setup that way.

Mark ,If you can prove it came off the back of the truck and not from the road you have a case in Ga. Wish I knew you were coming through Augusta ,would like to have the chance to buy you a beer.

Trucking companies cover these claims all the time because they happen so often. Call the company, tell them what happened and that you have a picture. They'll direct you to a glass company that handles their claims.

AND, never follow a dump truck if you can avoid it. They are in gravel quarries and construction zones all the time and usually have crap in the tread of their tires.

Road debris or rock from the tire would not count here.

A rock from the back of the truck is an unsecured load and would be their fault.

Either way, if no deductible on your insurance, then just go that way because it would be a big hassle to deal with the trucking firm.

Don't let a dump truck follow you either.

i thought it was funny when in the episode of Top Gear when they featured the C6ZR1, that they made fun of the plastic rear fascia...what a joke. 60-100K dollar cars here....and rubbermade bumpers.

Rubber/Fiberglass is lighter than sheetmetal. You have to give something up to get a lower car weight. But then again, it's a wash for typical Corvette owners.

Save 8lbs on the rear bumper...but put in 30lbs worth of HID headlights, and 100lbs worth of stereo equipment and 20lbs of chrome add-ons, with a 280lb driver.

Even if thin sheet metal was used, it would not add to the structural integrity of the vehicle. Most bumps with your Rubbermaid bumpers would not be noticed whereas if they were sheet metal would instantly dent.
