Just got back from a co-workers retirement party and dinner. Wife and I went to Stanich's, and I had one of these. Might take awhile to digest.

A good hangover puts hair on your chest....even the wimmens.

Also, I remember very well the second place hangover. We were the only Americans with a bunch of Brits. Since we all knew each other and were from the same squadron, we were gonna enjoy. Further, for those that don't know, the Brits love alcohol. Since they loved alcohol, the fellas had not one but two pubs. Who were we to say no to a drink now and then? Only once, I got tore up with duty the next day. The hangover in all that heat was also not kind. Good thing our duty hours were 0700-1100, six days a week. I suppose that was a perk for being so far out in the boonies you could step off the edge of the earth.

I hear Mars and Saturn are near the full moon tonight. Cloudy here so I can't go out and enjoy that with my cheap telescope.

Awesome! How do you get that picture? When I take full moon shots, it's like taking a picture of a freaking 100 watt bulb.

A shot from last year

The moon actually gives off a fair amount of light so you can set your ISO pretty low. Something around 100 for example. Under expose the shot by at least one stop, maybe even two depending on what kind of light your getting.

Mode > Aperture Priority
ISO > 100
Aperture > f8
Metering > Center-Weighted
Exposure > -1 to -2 stops.

A tripod is an absolute must. If you have a cable release use that. If not, try the self timer to eliminate camera shake when you fire the shutter. If your camera had mirror lock use that too. When the mirror flips up it vibrates the camera. 99% of the time you don't notice it because the shutter speed is high enough. But for this kind of thing and macro, it really makes a big difference.

Live preview also takes the mirror out of the equation but I can see shit in live preview.

I forget the exact ISO that picture had, probably a 100.
I ran it and the aperture all up and down the scale. And of course got everything from black to grainy.
Metering - not sure.
Camera was on a tripod with a remote shutter. (love that thing)

Do you use any filters by chance. Or is even possible with that little overall light?

Got cloud cover here tonight. Going to try it again tomorrow night.

No filters at all. You might have to manually focus. Sometimes a camera will hunt if it can't find something to grab. And make sure you're in 'One Shot' focus mode. The shutter won't release until it's achieved focus. In Servo, when you press the shutter release it's gonna take a pic, focus or not.
