Been following a couple FB groups with some artsy "fine art" type stuff. I watched a few Youtube videos describing how to heavily process them in Photoshop to get the dark (or sometimes very bright) effects.

I found an old photo I took in Boston several years ago and gave it a go. The composition isn't good as I had to crop out some stuff that just didn't work.

Mostly a fail I guess, but something new to try.

In the mid/late 1800s many Central Europeans immigrants settled in central Texas. As small towns popped up, churches were founded. The exteriors were mostly plain, just wood, and some brick, but the members wanted the look of the extravagant gold, marble, etc. of the European cathedrals. The small churches didn't have the money for gold and marble so they used paint to fake it. The photo below is of St. Mary's Catholic Church of High Hill. I think this is the most elaborate of the group.

Several of the churches remain, mostly to the east and southeast of Austin. Google Painted Churches of Texas for more info if you are interested. Makes a nice day trip out of Austin.

That is beautiful

A lot of the Catholic Churches in NY are older and ornate like the one you’ve shown, my parents married and we kids were baptized here...it has since been designated a Basilica by Pope John Paul II. It is my understanding that some of my ancestors helped build this church, a source of pride for that side of the family for sure.

Not the best pic, couldn’t find more of the murals it had...
