Utah lawmakers back plan to declare porn a health crisis

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Utah Senators have unanimously supported a resolution declaring pornography a public health crisis.

Plan sponsor Republican Sen. Todd Weiler of Wood Cross says he is not trying to ban porn. He says he wants to start a national movement so children are protected from it.

The proposal was given preliminary approval. It must still clear a final Senate vote.

Weiler says children are being exposed to pornography at an earlier age and that viewing the images and videos lead to relationship problems.

The resolution echoes an argument being made around the U.S. by conservative religious groups as porn becomes more accessible on smartphones and tablets.

Defenders of pornography say critics are spouting hyperbole.

Good ole Utah repressed individuals. There are a lot of good folks there that will give you the shirt off their backs. Yet, there are also a lot of repressed folks that live vicariously and closeted types of all kinds. Alchoholics/drinkers, adulterers, child molesters are just three examples. They'll put on a public persona of Mayberry attitudes but get their freak on as their second identity.

Possibly, but only in the same sense that a wife that makes meatloaf every night can expect that her man is going to watch enough cooking shows to want something different for dinner. That's not HIS problem, it's hers.

It's a problem for the selfish person in the relationship that thinks meatloaf is adequate always and forever.
