When my MIL lived with us in the little cottage I built for her on our old property we used her W&D as a 2nd set because she didn't use it much and my wife loved it. So she made it a part of the plan for the new house.

I love the idea because I'm going to have an outside shower on the back of the garage where the W&D will be...I can throw my dirty clothes in the washer and hop in the shower without ever going inside the house.
My wife is ecstatic about this.

If I see an attractive woman and make a comment my wife always says: "go for it and she's welcome as long as she can cook and clean"

I have two ovens and two refrigerators. We used to have two freezers but just one now. It still seems like we have a lot of laundry even after the sons moved out. Occasionally I’ll use my mil’s washer and dryer. Her house is next door.

Ya gotta know how to treat a lady. If she doesn't want to take part in cleaning duties, show her the alternative...

Soft drinks.

I don't think I've had one for over 10 years.

Yesterday we went to a local mom and pop hot dog stand for lunch. The wife and I both got a small (~ 8oz) homemade root beer. Neither one of use could drink more than half of it. About the only drinks I have are coffee, water, beer and an occasional bourbon. All necessities of life.

Has a large garbage bag full in the pantry. This has been going on for years. I have to be careful. It is stuff full so I will remove about 1/3 of the supply, then fluff them all up to appear full. Then hide the pile I removed in my vehicle and throw them out somewhere else.

If I put them in the trash outside, she will see this and flip out.
That's funny. I've been cramming them (and bread bags) into the walls for added insulation. The stuff that's already in there is so old if you touch it it turns into to dust. Can poke these bags into the tiniest of holes around door frames and they expand to fill the void inside the wall. Only downside being it's going to make for one hell of a blaze if this place ever catches on fire LOL... This is what Michiganders do

OK, I read the article now. I don't think it overlapped with anything I said except that most bottled water is processed tap water.

Wastewater you are seeing is a byproduct of reverse osmosis or nanofiltration backwash. The most efficient RO systems only recover ~80% of the water (permeate) and the other 20% is concentrate (wastewater). Low pressure home systems only recover ~50%. RO permeate is almost pure H2O and is corrosive so they add salts to the water to give it a taste and raise the pH. Some of the wastewater you are seeing is also from cleaning their equipment and containers.

The biggest BS in the article was the "sky is falling" about the trace amounts of scary-sounding chemicals in the water without saying that the concentration is high enough to be a health hazard or that the entire supply is contaminated. Maybe it is in some instances, but I doubt many bottlers in the US are consistently serving up water that is known to have cancer-causing amounts of chemicals.

The issue with smart appliances is that some people may be resistant to change or learning new things.

I'm sure that's some of it, but it's annoying AF to have to update the firmware on a washer or refrigerator. Why would I need to change the fridge temp with an app while I'm sitting on the couch or away from the house. If the fridge breaks while at the store or on vacation, WTF am I going to do about it anyway?

In that case, do what many do, including myself. Buy smart gear for your practicality.

I don't need a smart microwave, but perhaps you can use one to heat up coffee or chow on your way home.

It's becoming increasingly difficult to find dumb appliances.

I actually found a use for these. I found out a paint roller pan will fit in one. I put the bag over it and pour in some paint (very little) for touch up stuff. Toss the bag and the pan is clean.

Typical liberal hypocrite. Uses plastic bags that are terrible for the environment. Well, plastic bags were banned where I live by liberals, until they decided to bring them back but charge money for them. I have used my own cloth bags for the past 5 years, creating zero waste. Like the conscientious conservative Republican that I am.

The worst thing about those plastic grocery bags is that they like to fly. They are the bain of any landfill operator. If they land on a cow pasture, the cows will eat them, causing blockage of the digestive system and the cow dies.

I used to consult for landfill operators in upstate NY and they were writing checks to farmers for dead cows all too often.

Probably 60 years ago there was a thing in "Mad" magazine about what to do with those annoying soap bars that are half gone, somewhat unusable, so you throw them out.

Their solution: Make the bars hollow so when they're half gone they're all gone! Typical Mad Magazine, back then anyway.

Not sure if anyone followed up on that or not, probably a few Polish folk tried it.

But I have a solution that actually works: You must use Dial soap.

Name: Front.jpg

Size: 39.9 KB

See how the bars are curved?

Name: Side.jpg
Views: 18
Size: 44.5 KB

When the bar in the shower starts to get small and thin, I put a fresh bar beside it. When the time comes, and both are wet, I can rub them together vigorously and they will stick because of the curves. Other soaps that are flat don't work as well.

So I figure that in the past half-century, I've saved around $4.68 by doing this instead of throwing the slivers out.
