some day, when i'm feeling very flush, i'll think about such a watch for myself. maybe after i get a few SS checks (free gov't money!!).

Stainless sport models are the hot ticket these days but I predict the next hot property will be the two-tone sport model.

Current prices on my model are pretty much double what I paid for this 20 years ago. Not sure you can call it an investment, and I very much want to get another one in the next 2-3 years, likely solid gold, but time will tell. Solid gold is very pretentious, the two tone is much more subtle. I like my watch VERY much. I want a Daytona.

My Brother in Law had a gold GMT. It was the gaudiest thing you've ever seen.

The Daytona is about impossible to get. You'll have to get on a waiting list or buy from the gray market. Have you tried one on? I had Daytona lust until I tried one. Wildly popular watch but it just didn't work for me.

Since I retired 11 years, 3 months, and 13 days ago, I haven't worn a wrist watch since. I like the fancy watches, never had one, they would just get in my way while working, I'd bust one up on the first day.

I was relegated to the cheapies, they worked the best for me. I'd get the "2 fer" sale for 20 bucks from the Sportsman Guide, would last a few years, get another.

If you are thinking about bracelet restoration, send it to Rolliworks, they can also service the movement.

All Stainless Rolex Sports models are basically impossible to get through an AD these days. Even Stainless DJ's and OP's are "waitlisted" - Unless you have a purchase history or are willing to bundle with less desirable models. Frankly, the Rolex sales model is a fuggin JOKE.

I believe a lot of AD's are moving pieces out the back to the Grey Market Dealers, they subsequently jack up the price (because of the demand) and take kick backs from the Greys.

I would love to have a Solid Gold Day Date, and fortunately for you, those should be relatively available at an AD, any PM model should be attainable. It's the Stainless Sports models that are in demand right now.

Are you familiar with the lawsuit against the Chicago AD for selling directly to the Grey market? Interesting if watches are your deal.

Yup! I saw that over on one of the watch forums. Sad thing is, it's standard practice.

Back in June, I contacted two AD's about an OP39 or an Explorer. I felt jerked around by both, so I ended up going with a Grey/Pre-Owned dealer and bought a 14270 Explorer. The 5 Digit Explorer was the watch I fell in love with as a kid, so I'm happy.

I'd like to have a GMT Pepsi, but frankly the prices are obscene on these watches now. There are other brands.

Even the Day-Date isn't readily available these days, especially the white and rose gold ones. All sports models, even the full gold ones are not all that easy to find. The two-tone rose gold GMT has been hot ever since it came out a couple of years ago and the two-tone new model Subs are hot right now.

I was offered a rose gold Daytona on Oysterflex last week but I think I still prefer the white gold one.

No, it's owned by a foundation which is a charitable trust per Swiss laws. They make lots of $$$.
