Default Upgrades...

Just ordered 3 new video cards and 18 adapters. Video cards can handle 6 monitors each. Still haven't fully recovered from the lightning strike, but I think this will solve it. Was going to pull the trigger on 3 top end engineering cards at $1,500/each, but one of my racing buddies found less robust cards with 6 ports for $500 each. I don't need powerful graphics, I just need a **** ton of monitors, so I'm pleased.

I was getting VERY close to saying "fuck it" and building the next rig. Video cards and monitors alone would be $15,000, and the tower would be another $10,000 minimum. So for now, a minor investment of $1,500 should keep me trucking.

Still need C8 and new 700hp motor for C6.

Next computer will be epic.

Holy Moly!

I'm rocking a single 1440p 144hz V-SYNC 32" LG Monitor and an EVGA GTX 1080 GPU.

Red Dead Redemption and Hitman look great.

On my 3rd GPU and 3rd monitor upgrade with this setup, but still running the original i5-4570 @ 3.2 GHz CPU from circa 2012 IIRC when I built it.

Thinking maybe next year I finally build a new one with one of the AMD CPUs and a 2nd gen RTX card. My son will be turning 9 and is constantly using my desktop now, he can have this one.

The fans are for cooling. When used to their full potential, which Craig is unlikely to do, those GPUs get HOT!

I have a dual monitor desktop ... just swapped out one of the 24" monitors for a 40" 4K HDTV set. I watch TV, and edit videos on the big screen. Even though retired I need dual monitors for my hobbies ... I'm thinking next step is a 2nd 40" 4K unit and an improved graphics card for editing my 4K videos from my Mavic 2 Pro drone.

So the $1,500 investment was a bust, I couldn't get them to work, but they were truly slow workstation cards. After a weekend spent of ENORMOUS amounts of time and effort, I was able to make the much more powerful Nvidia 1070 cards work, and all 12 monitors. I previously thought 1 port was dead, but I found the sweet spot. The top row of 6 is controlled by USB3 to dual HDMI cards.

For the first time ever with this box, I was able to APPLY my settings for 18 monitors....no more bogus crap on 17 and 18. Now I have a full-sized rectangular array of 18 monitors. More importantly, when I shut down and restart, they come back to where they are supposed to be. That was a challenge before.

Living on the edge doesn't come without pain.

I'm building a monster tower for GWiz when she graduates in December. I will try and re-purpose the new cards for her box. Or, I may just write off the $1,500. They are truly not powerful, just allow lots of monitors, which I couldn't make work. Either way, I'm thrilled with the outcome.

Monitor #7 , lower left, is a new replacement that .net said could handle 1920x1200. They lied. Not happy about that.
