I took off work to go to a memorial today.

A good friend of mine who I've known from the local watering hole for several years has been taking care of his elderly father for many years. Well, I got to meet the father, talk to him quite a bit, and even looked up to him.

He passed on Friday 26 Feb at the age of 93. He was also a WWII Navy Veteran.

He died on what would have been his 60th wedding anniversary and his wife passed 20 years earlier. My friend said that his dad left us to go have a hot anniversary date in heaven with his wife.

My friend is sad over the loss, but also relieved. Saturday, he called and asked if I'd stop by the bar because he had some news for me. That's when I found out about the passing. He hadn't slept more than 12 hours a week in the last six month so I bought him a couple drinks, a chick we know drove him home, and he finally got some sleep. 12 straight hours of sleep makes a huge difference.

But, Mr. Ross..... God speed and enjoy your extended anniversary date.

93 was a good long life. DJ, just be there for your friend in the coming months, because losing your last parent isn't something you just get over right away. Trust me.
