This is why we don't kill Black Snakes...
I believe that this is a Black King Snake, and one of their favorite foods are any other snakes. They are very gentle; you can pick them up and if you hold them firmly but gently for 5 to 10 minutes they will calm down and you can let go of their head. They won't bite and will crawl on you and then just crawl off once they have checked you out. In this pic the King Snake has a very poisonous Copperhead Moccasin in a death-grip. |

I really dislike snakes, but won't intentionally hurt them. (Because of a dream I had a few years ago...)
I drove over a small one in my yard with the mower last summer; didn't see him until it was too late. Still bothers me when I think about it. |

I had a King snake call my garage home a few years ago. We first spotted it under our freezer in our storage room off our garage. Not sure exactly when it came and went, but I found it again when I was moving a box. I put the box back and let it be.
