Damned AC
I think I lost another control board.
AC is working and holding temperature, BUT... When it reaches temp and kicks off, the air handler blower kicks back on before it even completely stops. It runs all the time whether the unit is on or not. The flashes on the board indicate a rollout fault but neither rollout is tripped AND the rollout is for heat not AC. I have a new board coming tomorrow. So far I have replaced the upstairs unit control board three times (once because the board caught fire in 2019) and this will be the second board for the downstairs unit. I'm chalking it up to being crappy systems. Both are Goodman units. Thankfully, the boards are only about 45 bucks and last a few years. |

Misery loves company.
A/C stopped working Friday, apparently a power surge took out the control board of my fairly new (~3 yrs old) HVAC system…luckily under warranty and didn’t kill the compressor, but poor timing on the long holiday weekend getting a part overnighted.
No other way around it as this system is quite a bit more ‘advanced’ (read - pricey/fancy computer/electronics cr@p). Hopefully it shows up tomorrow, 97 degrees forecasted for both Tuesday and Wednesday.🥵 First experience with a power surge here taking something out, will look into a whole-house surge protector post-haste. |

Think it popped when I was gone but getting info about it out of the wifey a tad difficult. It still has a green light so... Will not protect against direct lightning strike though. Easy enough to wire in just need a double pole bfeaker and an open spot to out it. |

Just when you think it can’t get much worse…
High today was 97, with a heat index of 104 🥵 at least the part is installed, just waiting for things to work/cool down. Surge protector for the unit itself added also, but will still look into a whole house one as well.

I'm fairly sure no surge protector will work for a lightning strike.
Maybe an isolation transformer? |
