I never considered using sonic booms as a method of persuasion.

I remember reading many years ago, that the Blackbird's designer, Kelly Johnson, wanted to arm it with a ballistic shape, in other words a solid chunk of steel, weighing several tons. The idea being that, being dropped at mach 3 from 10-15 miles up, when it hit, it would make a huge crater just from the speed of impact, taking out a target without needing explosives.

In WWI they used flechettes, same idea on a smaller scale.

Go to the National Air and Space Museum at Dulles IAD, Chantilly Va.

acres and acres of aircraft and even a space shuttle or two, and the queen of the show IS.......SR71.......coolest plane I have ever seen......
