I'm always impressed with what I see on Forged in Fire and although I cannot do it what I'd like to see is all traditional way to make a blade or sword. Meaning no power tools what so ever. No power hammer, no grinders etc. Just the Smith his hammer and an anvil.
Lets see your end product!!!!

Blades have been forged then ground and polished for centuries... albeit all by hand. "finishing" edged weapons was considered a high art and took apprentices years to master.

No, The original "Wootz" Damascus has been replicated by Al Pendray.

I was reading about Damascus steel once, and the writer seemed to think that it is not as strong as a modern steel. I don’t know if the Japanese sword steel qualifies as a type of Damascus. But, I always thought it was amazing stuff when made into a sword by their ancient process. So, is Damascus steel more for decorative purposes, or is it tougher than a modern steel.

+1 for the videos Blade. I would watch them all day long! Regardless if you are folding or just stomping, those hammers are the bomb!

I would say much more tough with the modern steels currently on the market. When you take a basic tool steel such as O1, and add various elements such as Molybdenum and Vanadium, you get a steel that's bastard tough. Add a point of Chromium, and it becomes stain resistant. Some of the steel I use, like 52100 (Ball bearing steel), I have to do a full anneal in my heat treat furnace every time I forge it. Takes a little over 20 hours for the program to run just to get it soft enough to cut/drill. Even with carbide bits, it's a pain in the ass.

Thanks, Blademaker! Some time ago I decided I wanted an authentic Kukri. After some research, I came up with Kailash Blades. This little place in Nepal is a few guys handcrafting their blades from old leaf springs, I think using a charcoal forge. The place is a shack with a dirt floor, and rudimentary tools. I loved it! Idk how tough these blades are, but they are authentic, if nothing else.
