Both of the shoe repair places here closed down years ago. Friend has to drive an hour away to get the sole of one of his shoes built up so he can walk better. One leg is shorter than the other due to a motorcycle accident when he was a teenager.
Does anyone remember getting shoes dyed to match your prom or bridesmaid dresses?

Allen Edmonds and Johnston & Murphy are still my go to dress shoe brands. When I worked in NYC (for 20 years) going to Stapletons Shoes down on Trinity Place was the place to get your shoes.

Living and working in NYC wreaked havoc on shoes due to all of the walking you do and getting half soles/heels to prolong the life of your expensive shoes was just a thing we all did. $45 for soles and heels when the shoes were $200 was just the logical thing to do back then.

Years back when I was still working(welder/pipefitter)I wore good quality hi top work boots. Yes they were expensive for the times. I could beat up on them rather fast so in order to get my moneys worth, when needed off to the cobbler they went. I normally had 3 pairs working in rotation!

One of the better ones came from Italy, was a friend of the family and did great work. He was good and I used him on other occasions to repair/modify some of my leather items. Holsters, gun belts Etc.

That's a tough business to make money in due to our "throw away" society now.

We do have a sewing machine/vacuum cleaner repair guy about 12 miles away and that guy stays slammed with work though.

Any top quality shoe/boot maker will offer a complete service. I've had many from Lucchesse to Ferragamos reborn (have to keep the original box)! I have shoe fetish, only the best, will go on my feet. Many have lasted me decades (with no stinky) but I could really use a few more shoe trees.....

The same thing that happened to appliance and TV and Radio repair shops. And Auto repair shops. And Machine shops. And any other technical shop offering services.

We've been an -import from off-shore-and-throw-away-when-done society since our industry left the US about 40 years ago.

In the '70's, I used to get my Frye boots re-soled by a cobbler. Excellent work, and reasonable.

You're just now noticing this???

There is one in one of the malls here. Older Oriental gentleman and his wife are the owners. Have had the soles replaced on my everyday western style boots there a few times.

There was another one downtown. I haven't been in that area since I retired so don't know if they are still open.

Again with the talking for people You might want to wait and see how that Chinese planned world war shakes out before jumping on the PC bandwagon with that? I doubt any of those large Pacific Island nations want to be thought of as part of Asia.

Wait what?

Are you slow? Ate a lot of lead paint chips as a kid??
Boy are you dumb….

Look up the words before you open that thing you call a trap!

What's the difference between an Asian and Oriental?
There are huge cultural differences in people from different parts of Asia. However, it is better to refer to people from this continent as Asians rather than oriental, which is a term that should be used to refer to things form East such as rugs and carpets

More, for the impaired…..

What is the difference between Asian and Oriental?

The term oriental stands for things and people from the east, particularly east of Europe. It is a term coined by Europeans, to refer to the exotic and mysterious cultures and people from the East. The term is opposite of occidental that refers to things and people from the west.

However, human rights activists in America consider the term oriental to be a loaded word having bad connotations. They also consider the term to be Eurocentric.

What a ***** you turned out to be. I'll bet you use hyphenated-American terms, too. Playing right into the socialist/conquer-and-divide agenda.

What a Wuss....cow-towing to 'activists'. You're ****ing weak.

As if that's a good thing? Screw a bunch of commie wannabe activists. I don't need OR WANT other people telling me what to think about anything. I only speak for myself, unlike some people
