What am I missing here?

I loosely keep up with Nascar for reasons that include so many goofy ass rules nowadays. I thought there wouldn't be a penalty for Kenseth but good ole Nascar came along and went the opposite way. So, am I wrong to think Logano is a tool who wrecked Kenseth to win and Nascar didn't say anything. Then, Kenseth wrecks Logano and here comes Nascar with the hammer of Thor. Color me corn-fused.

Leading up to the previous race, Logano bumped/hit Kennseth and Kennseth crashed. Logano had a win previous in the Chase and was already in. Since Kennseth crashed, he did not make the next round of the Chase.

In the last race, Kennseth intentionally punted Logano who was the race leader at the time.

NASCAR had previously warned the non Chase drivers not to mess with the Chase contenders.

They beat Kennseth with a stick

Matt is out of the chase, and there are only three races left this season. He will still compete in the season finale at Homestead, and will incur no penalty going into next year. That is huge. Nascar sort of had to respond, but the net impact for Kenseth is minimal since his season was effectively over already. This is a good outcome as far as I am concerned.

Pretty much sums it up.

Logano ended Kenseth's season and championship hopes point blank by wrecking him out of the lead of a race that he had dominated with 5 laps to go. ...and even puffs out his chest and brags about it afterwards. Nothing happens. Nada

Now this?

Stupid. Suspend him for 1 race MAYBE.

I'm sure his daddy will be ready to fight for him (again) if it comes to it.

Again, all I hope is that the little douche doesn't manage to win 1 of the next 2. Hopefully Kenseth has some supporters in the garage that make it tough for him. If Logano does make it to Homestead with a shot, I hope to hell that Kenseth makes his race miserable.

That's dum...capital D-U-M. Chase or no chase, I agree with Kenseth. Fcuk Logano or any other tool that punts someone, acts like a brat about it, and thinks no retribution will occur. Imagine what Cale Yarborough would say about such a pansy ass rule?

In the end, my opinion doesn't really count. The few races I do watch, I pirate just to give Nascar a F-U, I don't buy anything associated with Nascar and the last race I went to was back in '09 with James, 69camfrk, in Vegas.

I actually read the verbiage of the penalty on Kenseth...

Based upon our extensive review, we have concluded that the #20 car driver, who is no longer in the Chase, intentionally wrecked the #22 car driver, a Chase-eligible competitor who was leading the race at the time

Additionally, we factored aspects of safety into our decision, and also the fact that the new Chase elimination format puts a premium on each and every race. These actions have no place in NASCAR.

I would love to know how exactly intentionally taking someone out at Kansas, which Logano has fully admitted to doing, doesn't fit that bill WAY more than this past week. The wreck at Kansas happened at almost 3 times the speed and was a race which had much more of a "premium" for Kenseth than Martinsville did for Logano.

The part about a driver "who is no longer in the Chase" is absolutely absurd given that his not continuing in the chase is what started the whole thing.

The people running NASCAR really are a bunch of f'n idiots.


Oh... and while we're at it, let's fine Danica 25 points for intentionally wrecking her 50th person of the season, because 27th in points is WAY worse than 26th.

See, this is what's f-ed up about the chase/playoff system. You've got a group of guys who have a lot to win and lose that are going 10/10ths. They've done well throughout the whole season and some a-hole can take them out and put all that hard work done over the last 10 months to shit.

Then you've gt a much bigger group of guys who didnt make the chase and are saying to themselves "F- it. I'm only here because the sponsors pay me to be." And it creates chaos. It works in other sports because only 2 teams play each other at a time. Can you imagine if every baseball team played in the world series but only 2 had anything to gain/lose? It would be lunacy.

Yeah, I probably would have bumped, not wrecked, Kenseth too. It's my opinion that Logano got what he had coming to him. To end his season like that was shitty.

they so screwed things up, that they thought they had to invent some 'playoff' so they could still draw ratings late in the year and compete with football. no ratings = no money, no money is not part of the France plan.

That is the key. These guys are good enough to know what they're doing.

If Logano had bumped him, moved him off line, or whatever you want to call it... great. If they are coming to the line at 10/10ths bouncing off of each other fighting like hell for a win and 1 ends up wrecked... great.

Logano simply spun him out. It wasn't a "bump" that went wrong or anything of that nature. He drove up, put the nose in the left rear and turned him... 100% intentionally and 100% beyond question ending Kenseth's season.

They let it go without a word. Great. But to come back with this 2 weeks later and throw the book at Kenseth is absolutely absurd.

Essentially what they just said was "If you're in the chase you can wreck whoever you want with no penalty. If you AREN'T in the chase... well that's a different story."

Picture your World Series analogy but add different rules for different teams.

It's just stupid from start to finish.

ok, what if you are in the chase, don't want to get busted, but have friends that are not in the chase (say Gordon and Jr.). is it ok for your friend to punt a competitor during the race to give you a large advantage? after all, you are just racing for position....

when in doubt, make it up as you go.
