Default First Passive-Glasses 3D TV gets THX Cert; Calif backs-off Amazon

LG 3D TV Gets THX Certification
LG announced Wednesday that its new Nano Full LED model has achieved the THX 3D Display Certification, the first passive-glasses 3D television to earn that distinction.

The model will be shown for the first time at CEDIA Expo this week in Indianapolis.

"The milestone of being the first passive 3D HDTV to pass our rigorous testing and achieve 3D Display Certification is quite impressive," Kevin Wines, Image Technology director of THX, said in a statement issed by LG. "LG has created a product that meets the utmost standards for 2D and 3D picture quality, delivering movie experiences with the same stunning color and detail found in the filmmaker's studio."

Amazon, California Reach Tax Compromise
Amazon has reached a tentative deal with California legislators in which the state will put off its planned enactment of an online sales tax by a year in exchange for Amazon dropping its planned ballot initiative against the tax, the Los Angeles Times reported Thursday.

California's governor, Jerry Brown, has not said whether he supports the deal.
The new law, passed earlier this year, imposed an online sales tax on Amazon and other online retailers; Amazon responding by pulling out of the state.

CA bowing to Amazon? Amazon wussed out though.

Not shocked...

Think about that for a minute.

Basically they will give in if Amazon stops threatening to challenge the bill.

Talk about a push over...

Amazon is welcome to re-locate to Texas anytime it wants...they'll find a better, harder working work force, as well as a far more friendly business environment.

Actually it's smart -- Cali and Amazon can do what they've been doing for another year and then the state gets the tax in 2012 without a fight, versus a bankrupt state spending a ton on voter education and advertising to fight with a company that has cash coming out of it's ears.

Why fight battles you don't have to, can't afford, and in the long run might lose and never be able to get that revenue?

Actually - The are build a HUGE distrubution center about 10 miles from my house. Local businesses are pizzed because they do not collect a state tax while all of the smaller local businesses do still have to collect and pay taxes.

IMO - the more businesses we have in our area, the more money there will be circulating in the hands of the local residents. i am sure that if we did collect tax we would have more money for infrastructure, but based on the deal that was made with Amazon, the extra jobs and supplemental businesses that will be attracted to the area should more than make up for not having them in my county.

NOTE:

Amazon.com supports a nation wide sales tax initiative ; and has stated so publically. But, they also have said that until then... they will search out locations that give them an advantage, any advantage.

don't the employees working at this huge center... take the money from their paycheck (whatever small amount it left after payroll taxes) and buy goods/services in that state; paying sales tax? Seems the state already gets the tax; in a round-about manor.
