Freedom is not free and our veterans fought to preserve our freedom and many paid the ultimate price. May God bless them all.

A veteran is someone who wrote a blank check to the United States of America (and her people within) for the amount of "up to and including my life."
I'm proud to have served, never regretted a moment of it.

Thank you to all who have and who are serving. It's amazing to see the percentage of Vette people with ties to the military.

Since they said I can't go do it myself anymore, I am very thankful this year to have landed a job at a company whose purpose is serving the warfighter.

You folks are quite welcome...although, I've never really known the right thing to say in return. I retired not long ago. It was a pleasure and if I were to be able to do it again, I would still sign up.

Also, while I did some things in less than stellar places, I was able to go to some absolutely great places on Uncle's dime. Furthermore, I did so with quite a few exceptional people. So, with that said, thanks to Uncle for providing me with great places and people along my journey.

When I was in everyone had either a sea story or fairy tale. You could tell them apart since the fairy tale started 'once upon a time' and the sea story was 'now this is no shit'

Well, this is a sea story. January 66 was on the USS Midway for carrier quals. When our planes were not flying we could go up to the O7 level, Vultures Row' and watch flight ops. Since the Midway was the first attack carrier I had been on I spent a lot of time there watching the different planes.

There was an F4 on approach and it was a pretty cool sight to watch. He came over the round-down and it looked like a 3-wire trap. Didn't exactly work out that way. One thing before I continue, the planes are supposed to go to full power just after they cross the ramp in case they don't catch a wire. As soon as they feel the pull of the wire they pull the power off. Everything looked good as he hit the deck. You could hear the power come back, but the plane didn't slow down. Oops, Apparently he had a hook skip and we watched him roll off the front of the angle. One of the things we were told, at least in my unit, was if you were on deck get over to the port side and try to get eyes on the flight crew.

There was a huge rush to the deck edge and all of a sudden there was a wall of water coming over the deck. Big crash? Not with the F4. After a few seconds there was the nose of the plane shaking like a dog passing peach pits slowly coming over the deck edge. The plane was on the verge of a stall, but the pure power of the F4 was keeping it in the air. After the pilot got the plane over flight deck level he put the nose down and came around and landed.

Everyone figured the Pilot and his RIO probably had to have their flight suits surgically removed from their backsides. One great job of flying and saving the taxpayer money.
