Default A sad ending for a beautiful 57 Chevy

The good news is, not only is the driver of the care and sole occupant at the time ok after a short hospital stay. But the car is just about rebuilt. This happened abot 2 years maybe a bit more in Queensland Australia. A bolt from the air cleaner drooped into the carb jamming it full open.

The ignition switch was also disabled from said bolt? Transmission frozen in gear from the same bolt?

That's what I was thinking. I had a throttle stick wide open on my Road Runner once. Shut it down and braked to a stop.

Bolt dropping from the air cleaner and jamming the carb wide open is not believable. Just like Alec Baldwin's gun 'going off by itself'. The air cleaner is held on by a stud that screws into the carburetor, passes though the air cleaner assembly and has a wing nut on top of the air cleaner cover. If the nut did back off, nothing would happen. the lid might fly off, but probably not, as the studs are usually pretty long. If the lid flew off, it would sound like a hubcap falling off as it fell out of the engine compartment onto the road. Last time a throttle stuck on me, I shut off the ignition and pushed in the clutch. Amazing how well that works. What we are looking at here is driver error. And IMO, the large ghetto wheels indicate there is a good chance that the driver wears his ballcap backwards and has sleeved tattoos. All I need to know to judge him as guilty.

Don't hold back man, tell us what you really think!

I think the guy was street racing and lost control. Then, made up that bullshit story to tell his insurance company to explain why he was going wicked fast on a residential street.

Happened to me in a 69 Fairlane. Was in the middle of a 100 mile long motor route delivering newspapers. The car belonged to my wife so I finished the run

Dam, leaving work one afternoon a bunch of years ago I hit the gas on my 72 Vette to go around a slowpoke and the throttle jammed at WOT. Not a big deal I punched the clutch and grabbed the keys in the ignition (remember them) and turned the car off.

I think exactly the same thing. In fact, I'd bet on it.
