I tried the octopus. As you could see, they brain it, so what you're seeing is the muscles/nerves reacting to the heat of the broth. The hardest part was figuring out how to actually attack the dish. I got through the tentacles. Not really a big deal. Not fishy at all, and has a really good snap. If you've had raw mirugai (geoduct), it's very similar in texture, but not as sweet. They offered to further cook the head for me over the broth cooking, but I just couldn't get past the guts part.

The visuals are harsh, but the flavors were pretty mild.

Seriously, the Asian culture is responsible for the extinction and decimation of our wildlife the world over. They just plain don't give a flying **** if they kill the last whale or shark as long as they can get an erection from eating the powder or soup. Barbarians and ruthless mother****ers, IMO.
Here in CA, they poach Abalones, and when I used to deer hunt, they market hunt the deer with armies of 30-40 people and slaughter a whole population. Terrible culture when it comes to preservation and conservation.

I also hired a utility engineer from China who jumped ship on a container ship in Seattle and made his way to SF. He was the cook on the ship. He also told me the captain of the ship liked monkey brains. When food supplies were loaded onto the ship, it included live monkeys in cages.
