Grocery stores and big box retailers have generators and are open for business. I need to run out and get some fresh chainsaw chains today.

A few days ago, the Weather Channel had a piece where they were talking to a Tesla owner a couple of days before Ian was supposed to arrive. The correspondent asked the Tesla owner what he was going to do if he ran out of juice for his car. The owner stated that he'd just carry a portable generator with him.

There were several groans from the studio...

Snide’s post is the cornerstone of my thread. EV is not sustainable. Parts of Fort Myers could be without power for over a month. How does your little GSC3 EV get you through this bullshit. Same thing for winter storms.

Maybe they can put a wind turbine on the top of their Tesla.

pfft, you just walk up the road (or catch a ride) and get a bucket of electrons (don't spill to many), and then pour them into the charging port when you return. viola! all charged up.

what's that, didn't work? you probably spilled too many. try again tomorrow.

1 in 8 people in this country live in apartments. How the f are those people going to manage an EV? How does a 200 unit complex for example charge all those EV shitboxes?

1 in 8 seems way low. Does that mean the other 7 own a home.

Very good unanswered question... I'd bet they pass laws to make appt building owners to install charge stations.. And the dwellers will pay thru the teeth for ths power and enjoy higher rent to pay for the stations. But it'll save them money they say. Lol.
Like some slum lord is going to put several hundred thousand worth of chargers in da hood to have them destroyed.

What’s the percentage of people in an apt that don’t own a car? I bet it’s on the high side

Last I heard gasoline pumps require electricity in order to function. How are you going to fuel your ICE vehicle when the gas station is without power?

If you were about to say "the gas station has a fossil-fueled backup generator" then guess what? The EV owner can have one of those too and "sustain" just fine.

We lived in several old brownstone apartment buildings when I was growing up. Built in the early 1900s before automobiles were common, these buildings have no off-street parking but they were within walking distance of the "L", the C&NW (steam commuter rail) and several bus lines, plus the neighborhoods were highly walkable with lots of shops, restaurants, theaters, etc. all close by.

As you might expect, car ownership among my neighbors was pretty low.

I've seen one tesla in town up in CDA..Realtor we know. Informed me the dealership loaned him the car to "try it out" for a week. Next time we ran into him he said he returned it.

You obviously don't reside in a rural area or didn't think that through.

Many, including myself keep 55gal drums of various fuels to support vehicles, equipment, performance vehicles, marine engines etc.
Some "round here" even have, gasp, in-ground fuel tanks with pumps that can be manually operated if need be.

I have a couple decent electric bikes (ones a Sur ron) we ride on the trails. Fairly decent range if cruizing. But I also own a couple dual sports ie enduro's with desert tanks for extended range. Which do you think I prefer on an excursion further than 15mi off the property or under any extreme conditions?
For heavy snow I'd seriously avoid an electric snowmobile or electric tractor lol for pulling someone out of the ditch. YMMV

I don’t have a ****in’ clue what it means. I Googled; how many people in the US live in an apartment.

“Nearly 39 million people in the United States — that is almost 1 in 8 — call apartments home.”
