Default Job Search Ideas.

Ok folks. Some serious here, but knowing you all there will be goofy chit as well. I rarely make threads.

So Just looking for ideas here. You all have all had vastly different life experiences I am sure. I am almost 60. Retired from my full time job of 25 years recently. (Outsourcing and poor management were the deciding factors for retiring) They are paying the lion share of my health insurance for life unless I give it up or croak first. So I am giving some personal information here just to keep it somewhat on track.

Ok so some parameters may be in order too.

1. I have provided for the family raised the kids all of that so it is just me, myself and I to consider here. I do not have to make baller money. I do have to cover say 20 ish years left on the planet. Maybe

2. I know the world needs ditch diggers too. A little old for that now. So Emanuel labor and I are not friends

3. Mostly association work and sitting in front of a computer, customer service etc... for over 25 years, and a lot of travel to run meetings, etc. Not really interested in the same line of work or the travel. Been to 38 states so far. Had lots of different jobs through the years. Military etc.. Please no retail suggestions

4. I really just want to work. Like what I do. Be helpful to a company/place. Make some decent money until I can really retire. Let's call 45-50K or under decent for this new line of work. Financial guy says the math is no good at this time to fully be retired due to divorce some years back So whatever it is I will need to work 5-7 years ish? Maybe more? Could be less? Age seems to matter more than I thought.

5. So what I am interested in is what types of work or ideas for what types of jobs for a semi retired person to look into given above average work ethic, dependable, reliable person with above average intelligence can fit in well with? I will not answer personal stuff on the thread. You can Pm me if you think you need more detail.

6. Remote ideas? located in FL currently.

Ok so this could go sideways, but since I consider many on here friends through the many years of interaction I thought it would be interesting, and could be fun for others to see your ideas as well. OK Go!

WalMart greeter? Fluffer? Reviled car forum admin?

Sirius, what exactly did you do in your career? FL college/university system is recovering and are starting to unfreeze the hiring processes. Local school boards are doing the same and it's all within the FRS (retirement plan) system and transferrable.

The world needs plumbers, electricians, and truck drivers.

Also, my local "nextdoor", folks are constantly asking for handyman work. I could easily charge $50/ hour cash if so inclined.

Don, you are always riding your bike. Why not see if you can find something at one of the Harley Dealerships near you?

True. Interesting. Sales, washing them? Not a bike mechanic for sure. Not bad with a wrench on cars. Something to look at.

I have 2 retirements behind me, Uncle Sam and 20 more years with local govt. When I retired last February, I told myself and my wife, I'm not doing shit until January and so far, I have lived up to this.

Once January shows up, I may do volunteer work. With my 2 retirements along with hers, plus 2 social security's, house and cars are paid off and a respectable savings and investments, we're fine. We never lived beyond our means like many

I am considering going back to where I just came from but through and employment agency working for a good friend in another department who needs some help a few days a week.

I was in the same boat at 63. Gave up my professional career (electronic designer)

Waiting on the SS ponzi to start in 2.5 years, I took a job as a
beginner mechanic at a scissor lift/boom lift rental local company.
All I had to do was check-in and clean/fuel/park returning lifts.
Any mechanicasl problems found, write it up and put in the queue
for the mechanics.

Easy work for 7 months.
Got promoted to office/dispatch help for the next 2 years,
until I had to quite because of the SOs health problems.

So, I'd suggest look for equipment rental firms and see what they have to offer.
I did all types of office stuff: CDL tracking, as well as delivery drivers DOT daily records.
Kept tract of daily/weekly/monthly reports for deliveries & pick-ups. Was a fun job, Started at $13.00, raised up $18.00 an hour in less than 2 years.
Got annual bonuses plus profit sharing too. $20k in less than 3 years.

You never know what's out there.

i just checked SSA, and they have updated numbers for what you can expect to get upon filing for benefits. nice increase across the board. so i copied my numbers to a spreadsheet i've made to compare scenarios and they break even around 80 for me. since I was born in April, when i file at 62, i won't get a check until May. so only 7 checks first year.

if you've had a decent work history, SS is some good money to fill gaps you might have, or you can let investments alone for later.

as for work? no idea in FL, or anywhere else.

drive around, see who has signs up. or just stop in places you might like and ask if they are hiring. piano player in a cat house?

Car service.either a town car driving execs to/from the airport/meetings etc or stretch limo for parties/ weddings/concerts etc.

Did it for 7+ yrs. Was one of three drivers out of 50 that treated it like a full time job. Most were retired teachers/managers etc.

Or maybe running new cars from dealership to dealership. Shuttle service for a dealership?

Edit: only car service had good tips (about $12k a year) but all of the above have no cost to get into and you can stay in it until you’re shitty at driving

We plan on opening up our ice cream truck in the spring. We'll be looking for workers we can trust, but we won't be able to cover your commuting expenses.

As LARS mentioned, look into Real Estate. There are many areas of real estate where you don't need to be a [Il Duce]REALTURD[/Il Duce].
