The main difference in Snap On wrenches that sets them apart is the precision. On the flare nut wrenches, it's both the precision and thickness of the working ends. When you have ONE shot at getting a fuel or brake or steering line off without rounding off the fastener, you need to use a Snap-On line wrench. FAR superior to any other brand, and I've worked with all of them. Some of my favorite sockets are the old, chrome very thin-walled Craftsman that fit in very confined spaces. Can't really go wrong with any made in USA tool....A buddy of mine picked up a coffee can full of taps and dies from the 1950's for $1 at a yard sale and gave me half of them. Totally superior than the crap you buy today.
Snap On flare nut wrenches are superior. Speaking from real world experience, they are a necessity!

You can use the date code chart and date most Snap-On tools to the exact year of manufacture. From 1920 to present day. I found a 1/2 inch drive Snap On ratchet under a car's hood and it dates to 1951.Name: th (1).jpg

I've been to the factories in Kenosha, and Johnson city, TN.
Concrete is 15ft. deep under some hammer presses.
Wrenches have 3 layers of nickel chrome as to not flake...which is why they have military contracts = no FOD
Same as lots of other aviation companies like PHI, ERA, etc...use Snap On exclusively as their required tools list.

Tips of screw drivers are vapor blasted for gripping, and preventing metalic chipping at contact points = FOD

The Snap-On wrenches I bought over 40 years ago and used daily for decades still function as well as the day I bought them. Can't believe the prices now for new stuff. That 3/8 drive chrome swivel ratchet I posted was my 3rd one since 1980. First one was $40 or so, I lost that, second one was $74, and I turned it in to the Snap-On man about 10 years ago for a refurb, but it was too worn and he gave me a new one, no charge. It listed for $144 at the time. It'll outlast me, like all the other tools. Hell, even the Snap On dial back timing light I got in 1982 still works. And I used it daily for years.

Like others, bought my first Craftsman set in 1970, learned how to work on my 69 Mustang and do engine work with those tools...still use them today. When my Dad passed, I added more to my set. I use them without fail, some of the newer ones that I have purchased I rarely mess with.

I think they've been contracted to MIL since the 50's.
Not sure if they still do today though.

A friend bought a nice military spec, WW2 era Snap On breaker bar at a flea market 30+ years ago in the Bay Area. We got to using it on a job and found that it was 5/8" drive and none of our 1/2 drive stuff would work. Found out later that the 5/8 drive was mainly so service men wouldn't walk off with the tools for personal use. They were worthless without all the 5/8 accessories which were not publicly marketed.

1/4 drive had the legs of a Kenyan, 1" drive not so much.
It was common thought that tools without chrome = MIL
Snap On also makes corrosion resistant tool for plants/industry...a few different alloys for specifics, and no chrome....some of which is more $$$$ than the usual.

My toolbox is a DIY that my brother-in-law gave me for Christmas. I added the extra boards with slots for my SAE and metric wrenches. I also added slots on the ends for screwdriver and drill bits. It goes where ever I need to work and carries most of the tools that I need. Extra room to throw in other specialty tools I may need or a rechargeable drill or saw.

Back in the day, long before Algore invented the internet, these went along with the tools. The books, along with an older gearhead BIL and a couple of other guys, we managed to figure everything out that we needed to know.

My BIL was the single biggest help to me. He's 82 now and still rebuilds airplanes as a hobby.

I got the Motor's as a HS grad gift from my sis.

Yes, I know I'm ****ing old.
