I have many family and friends with different political views, sexual orientation, skin color, and other differences. Although it isn't always easy, I choose my friends by the content of their character. I haven't really come across many folks on here or the other forum that I didn't think I could get along with as I don't think someone's internet persona is always accurate. To tell you the truth, I have always wanted to meet a fellow forum member, but never have done it. Not too many folks near me in PA.

This thread was emailed to me and I would like to clear something up.

I never left in a huff, or swore I’d never post again, or pulled an epic flame out, I just stopped posting here.

And the reason is simple. I can’t post in PRC or off topic without the same small group that then calls me a communist, libtard, joetoool, joefoool, or whatever other derogatory term is in style that day.

As Val was kind enough to show in the screen shot he posted, I tried for the most part to leave the PRC stuff in PRC. The exception to that would usually be when someone posted a PRC thread was started in off topic and not moved.

I didn’t raise holy shit about it. I didn’t call out any moderators, I didn’t create new id’s and continue posting, I didn’t cry about being told to “f off” by other members, and I didn’t protest the banning when there are daily threads regarding politics and religion that are posted in off topic. I just left. I’m friends with many if not most of you on Facebook, that and Reddit are where I’ve been.

I’m not going to sit here and claim I’m an angel either. But for the few of you who sit here and say that I was arrogant, a name caller, disrespectful, condescending, etc, you would be lying to yourself if you don’t acknowledge that I got far more than I dished out. It was usually one against ten.

That also explains why I did not always participate in a PRC thread after I felt I had made my point. When it’s one against ten or more, I’d be spending my every waking moment in PRC defending my position. Sorry, I’ve got other stuff to do.

And this thread is a perfect example of why I stopped posting here. Tom can’t even say he stopped by for a beer without someone turning it into a shit storm again. WTF???

It’s no secret that the most vocal group here tend to lean heavily to the right. That shouldn’t be an issue though, because there is a PRC forum where that can be expressed. Unfortunately, that isn’t where most PRC threads get posted. I just looked and in the last week, there have been four new threads in PRC. I count eight threads that could be considered PRC started in the last day in off topic. You can forget it if you don’t have the hive mind in those threads. The people who are in the middle or left get bullied into silence. They see these threads, know what will happen if they make a post, and instead just leave. I’ve been told by several people that is why they no longer participate here.

Portdawg asked what could be done to fix the exodus of members. It’s simple. Moderate with an even hand. Put ALL the PRC threads into PRC, and crack down on the bullying. If you think that takes up too much of your time, draft another moderator or two to help with the effort.

I know this place prides itself on loose moderation compared to the CF Nazis, and that is something that should be lauded. But when that loose moderation devolves into members being openly hostile to each other and brings the level of discourse down to name calling, its time to reevaluate what you are going to let slide.

I discovered while I was banned that I was happier not being subjected to that, and the response it generated in me.

I’m not going to flame out, I don’t have any reason to. But if things can change around here, you might just find a lot of us coming back.

PS - Tom, it was great seeing you again. I hope you stay on the island the next time you guys are down.

I've met Phil in person MANY times, and he is a wonderful person, and extremely likable regardless of political persuasion. This is a classic case of judging someone by their internet persona.
