Default Things that change your perspective on life

1. Birth of a child.
2. Getting married.
3. Hearing "You've got cancer".

1 and 2 are pretty self explanatory. # 3 tho, flashes your mortality in front of you. Going through the surgery and chemo treatments remind you that no matter how strong you THINK you are, there is something out there that can make you weak as a 5 yo girl.
People ask will this make me pull back on some of the crazy shit that I do-I say it will make me more adventurous. All I will say,is that this has been the craziest 3 1/2 months of my life.

I have already finished chemo and in 5 years SHOULD be considered cancer free. I have 2 years of quarterly testing. Chemo though- take your worst hangover, multiply it by 3 and have it last for 3 weeks. Needless to say I have curbed my alcohol intake drastically.

Hang in there Tom. Enjoy life. Glad you were able to get treated, and the cancer (hopefully) eradicated.

Now, let's see you win the Tour de France 7 times.

Funny you should say that-my Oncologist talked to L. Armstrong's Dr. as my case was so similar.

Glad to hear you're on the mend, Tom. I encourage you to pray the Psalm 91 Prayer of Divine Protection daily!

Lord, I claim that place of rest under the shadow of the Almighty. I declare you alone are my refuge and my place of safety. You are my God and I trust in You! You have promised to rescue me from every trap and protect me from every disease. You’ve promised to cover me with your feathers and shelter me under your wings! Your promises are my armor and protection.

I will not be afraid of the terrors of night or arrows that fly by day. I will not dread the disease that stalks in darkness nor the disaster that strikes at midday. Though 1,000 fall at my side and though 10,000 are dying around me, these evils will not touch me!

I open my eyes and see how the wicked are punished. I have made the Lord my refuge! I have made the Most High my shelter – no evil will conquer me! No plague will come near my home. Lord you have promised to order your angels to protect me wherever I go. They will hold me up with their hands so I won’t even hurt my foot on a stone. I will trample on lions and cobras. I will crush fierce lions and serpents (demons) under my feet.

Lord you have promised to rescue me because I love you. The Lord will protect me because I trust in the name of Jesus. When I call, you will answer. You have promised to be with me in trouble. You have promised to rescue me and honor me and reward me with a long life and give me your salvation. Amen.

I think most people know generally that chemo sucks. But when you actually get it, the reality is that it is far and beyond what people think. But you get through it. Somedays you don't think you will. I just sleep so I miss the worst of it.

I had this idea that I could work from home during treatment. Sit in front of a computer for a few minutes a day-How could it be that bad ? Nope. I had totally overestimated my ability to deal and underestimated chemo.

My mother got cancer when she was 38 and it almost killed her. She made a promise to herself that if she got better she would go to school and become a nurse.

Four years later she graduated college and became an RN.

She worked her way through a cancer unit in Ft. Laudedale before moving to Nashville. She then worked in hospice and then worked for the state as a nursing home inspector.

She then helped start a hospice company.

When she retired last year that hospice company had grown from an office with herself a few nurses and a doctor, to over 400 hospices nurses and four hospitals.

Its amazing what someone can accomplish when beating a diagnosis that could have easily been terminal.

I wish you well with your recovery. Appreciate every day - as I know you do.
