New Rifle added to stable. M1A loaded
Bought this yesterday, 1200 complete. Never fired.
Walnut stock, Loaded version. 7.62x51. Will go well with M1 Garand. |

Beautiful, congratulations. I have several rifles in my collection that haven’t been fired yet, though I agree they should be. Never enough time.

I bought mine new in 1983, and mostly shot 3 position matches at 200 yds.
This is my top SHTF go to! |

I used the M-14 in basic and fell in love with it. About 15 years ago I gave myself
a birthday present, a Springfield Armory M1A National Match. Like Toolmaker, I use any mil-spec 7.62x51. It drills 'em home and it does quite well in 200 yd matches. Yes, it's heavier than any of my AR's but whatever it hits will stay dead. |

Very nice
Either mil spec or handloads that match mil spec. The M1A / M14 are not as "pressure curve" sensitive as the Garand but I suggest staying with mil spec ammo. A friend just picked up ( literally a week ago) a Scout Squad M1A in walnut but hasn't shot it yet. The Scout Squad has a rail on the top which he mounted a red dot |

Mine liked any 147 grain NATO spec stuff before the boating accident. I found some Australian stuff it loved... like hit a golf ball at 100 yards 6 times in 10 with open sights and a bunny bag.

I shot enough rounds through my M1A to have to re-barrel it. Mostly across the course. M852 or LR118 if you can find it. Federal Gold Medal Match works too. With the 168 or 175gr bullets. If you reload 41.5 of IMR 4895 with a Sierra 168 or 175 MK will work. They are great rifles.

I use 165gr bullets for serious work and 150gr surplus for target shooting/plinking (because handloading 1000 rounds doesn't sound like a good time). Read once that semi-autos provide the best accuracy and functionality using mid-weight projectiles with medium weight loads of medium burn rate powder. Always stuck to this notion handloading and it hasn't let me down. The.308 bullet is typically offered in a range of weights between 110gr and 220 gr. The 165gr 308 is what match shooters use because it wins contests. Doubt this is mere coincidence, more likely these bullets synergize best with the twist rate built into the barrels. Oh, BTW... I'm jealous of your wood |

Let me try and find a pic of mine... USGI stock purchased from Fred's M14 Stocks before he sold out... I think I paid $36.50 as a "fancy wood" near new specimen including the metal. It looked like a telephone pole when it arrived... don't remember how many coats of Tru-oil are on it but... Hope I can find one, stay tuned! |

My kid was having problems with the scope on his 7MM Rem Mag and asked to borrow a rifle one deer season. Loaned him my M1A and told him to buy a box of 165gr 308 Remington CoreLokt to feed it. He saw two deer standing in his back yard... Got them both
