Moving sucks
This whole relocation has been painful. We have been hitting roadblocks with everything we encounter. The bank can't seem to get enough information, each day there is a new request for some other document. One loan officer asks for a document the other says you don't need it. One asks for information my wife has to scan and send to me to be able to upload, only to find out it is not needed. UGH.
The icing on the cake, the movers say the earliest they can move us is August. We close on the new house July 14th and the old house on July 6th. We need to be out of our old house on the 15th of July. I asked them what they expected us to do. Well ask the new owners if you can stay. NO, find someone else to move us. Was up to midnight comparing U-Haul, Pods and a few others and trying to map a plan to be able to move my wife and dogs here to IA and still keep up at work. |

I feel your pain. We sold in March last year, at that time movers were on spot and got us moved to daughter's house for the interim. Found a place made in offer and was excepted. Then the fun began, the house was in a trust and it was a nightmare, took over 3mos to finally get the keys. The kids involved were fighting and took forever to get the signatures. Now the mover was busy and out a couple weeks, finally got moved.
Good luck! |

Moving is right up there on my list of the most stressful PITA experiences you can go through
First move (local) we did ourselves with a rental truck and some friends help. No real issues Second move was cross country but my employer paid for everything as part of my relocation package. Overall pretty good Last move was from Il to FL. We paid for everything (mover pack and load) and it was a cluster ****. They caused damage to walls at house we moved out of and “lost” items even though everything was loaded onto a van and driven straight through to our new house (no warehouse involved). Friend of mine is moving locally (less than 10 miles). The moving company is now trying to bill him for several thousand dollars more than the written quote they gave him. |

No matter how smooth it goes, moving is a month of hell.
Good luck. |

We built a custom home on 5 acres in 2002. When we moved in I told the wife when I go out of this house it will be in a bag.
That was 4 houses ago. |

Totally agree. We have been preparing and packing for our move for months now, and it's a royal pain in the ass! The one thing we have going for us is that we are not even going to put our current house on the market until we move in to the new one.

Yes, a big PITA. Hang in there, it will smooth out.

I feel your pain.
1983 Moved from NY to WI, but didn't have a place to move too, as our house would be built AFTER we closed on the NY house. (Needed the equity to secure the loan on the new house, plus mortgage Co requested an additional $5K down payment on top of the 33% equity I had - they wouldn't allow the SOs income because of Interstate move. She didn't have a job at time of Mortgage app.) All of our possessions we put in storage by the moving Co we selected. 5 months for construction. Lucky for us, My parents let me, the wife, our son, 1 cat, and 1 dog, stay at their home. That was very tough, and nerve wracking process back then. I know your situation is different, but try to remain calm and steady during the process ahead of you. Good luck. |

This will be our second and hopefully last move. In 22 years in the Navy, I was very fortunate to stay in Norfolk VA the entire career. I got lucky or unlucky to not move from the area. We owned our home for 12 years when we retired and moved to a new job in Indiana. The company paid for the move and overall it was a very smooth operation.
When I accepted the job here in IA the relocation got off to a rocky start, first with a realtor who promised one thing and did something totally different. Our second realtor has been spectacular. The relocation counselor has been great. He was caught off guard when I emailed him to let him know the movers couldn't get our stuff packed until August. He has escalated the case so hopefully it will move a little smoother. I hope to hear something on Monday. We were going to wait and put the house on the market after we moved but the neighbors son and daughter in law wanted to purchase the house so we elected to sell and use the proceeds on the new house. In hind sight we should have waited and did our original idea of moving and then selling. We could refinance after we got settled in. We are prepared to go with PODS and move ourselves, it would be very difficult doing by myself for the most part. I've done a lot worse stuff in my life though. I've told my wife, one way or another we will get to the new house despite all the hurdles put in place. I'm ready to get out of the hotel room and back into a house. These four walls are closing in each day. Thanks for all the comments and letting me vent. I thought retiring twice was stressful, the move and relocation tops it. Heading out to the Farmers Market in Downtown Cedar Rapids IA. Got to do the recon for the wife. |

That's an understatement. My dad was in the Navy and the family followed him around. We moved so much that I never began and ended a school year in the same place until the 10'th grade. Didn't mind the travel so much but having friends to grow up with was not an option. Must be nice but I wouldn't know about that.
