Taxes! do you really like paying them?

I did this a few years back over at the other place but thought it would be fun to bring it up again..

A: Do you love to pay all of your taxes because you feel it is your patriotic duty to do so?

B: Do you pay all of your taxes just because it is the law! and you are afraid of the penalties if you do not.

Bonus points to explain why you feel your tax moneys are going to good use.. or not going to good use..

Protection and infrastructure.
Sure it's ok with me to pay taxes.
Just like anything else though, I don't like being ripped off, which I don't feel is happening right now.
You get what you pay for around here, for the most part.

little pro tip: different kinds of income are taxed differently. you can complain, or you can arrange your affairs to take advantage of this.

examples: capital gains are taxed at a rate of 0% if you are in the 10% or 15% income brackets (married filing joint, up to about 73k), and no FICA taxes are due either.

tax free bonds: duh, no fed or state taxes due if from your state of residence, and again, no FICA (15.3% for self employed).

qualified dividends: similar to cap gains.

regular dividends: 10-15% rate, no FICA.

if you make your money with your labor, you are taxed out the wazoo.

and money saved today and spent down the road is also tax free. penny saved is a penny earned.

oh, that's right - i'm not an 'expert', so what the hell do i know?

My problem is that a growing percentage of my taxes are going to an every growing group of people who are deadbeats, dropouts, drunks and druggies.

I don't mind paying some taxes, but I feel I pay too much. When I pay more out than my S/O can take home it seems a bit much. Not that she makes a lot, but still.

I'll pay what I owe and hopefully not one penny more. Although I've tried to structure things so I don't owe, I end up with a Wdebt of a few thousand dollars even after making the quarterly deposits. Since most of my income is rental or dividend and not W2 or 1099 I can't contribute to an IRA...grrrrrr!

Even when I had a company that paid big bucks I never really minded as long as I got a good standard of living out of it. Driving on nice roads, seeing the snow plows out in bliazzards, protected by police and fire depts, and, up here, never having to worry about getting sick and not getting treatment. No, don't mind paying.

While they waste the roads budget on hacks and favorites, meanwhile the serious roads that needed improving go untouched......figgers.....Untold million spent on 'upgrading' a local freeway interchange here, only to completely screw up the light timing so it takes 15 minits to do 2 miles under the freeway....yeh, lets hear it for 'planning' I could have taken a marker to the map and saved over 90% of the costs, and had the traffic patterns GREATLY improved, but NO some crooked operation got in there and totally screwed the pooch.....
