Arrested for Trespassing in a church parking lot in Jerkwater, USA

Guy parks his car in an empty church parking lot, to sleep. Police roust and arrest him in the middle of the night, because he won't produce his DL upon demand, which he doesn't have to. All he had to do is leave upon being notified he is trespassing, which he couldn't do because he was detained, then arrested.

The ironic thing is, he's parked in a church parking lot.....the parking lot for their church's homeless outreach program. The church has the right to have this guy, or anyone, removed from their parking lot, but the first part of that is, they have to give people a CHANCE to leave. This guy didn't refuse to leave, he was detained, then arrested....for trespassing. I can understand why the church wouldn't want a bunch of (or any) homeless people squatting in their parking lot. I get that. I don't get having them arrested, v. simply getting them to leave and come back for help when the church is open to help them.

Agree. I was certain that trespassers had to be given opportunity to leave BEFORE they could be charged/arrested/detained, whatever.

This came up often during the mask nazi days. People were asked to leave for not wearing a mask. If they REFUSED, then action was taken.

Same department arrests woman for complaining to a deputy that he cut her off in traffic. His apparent emergency? Had to get to McDonalds. He was so incensed a tiny woman had the audacity to complain about his driving, he arrested her! That will show that insolent hussy who's in charge.
