Default I wonder how this sits with the locals...

The Dallas Morning News has endorsed Clinton for President, contrary to the State's Conservative bent. From 1872 through 1976, Texas went Democratic in the vast majority of elections. However, that changed in 1980, and Texas has sided with the Republicans ever since. This newspaper has not recommended a Democrat for the nation's highest office since before World War II.

Texas has 38 electoral votes, second only to California's 55.

We recommend Hillary Clinton for president* | Editorials | Dallas News

why is a newspaper... making a choice? That is soooo 1960's -70's journalism.

Shouldn't they just concentrate on presenting all the facts, and let their readers make individual decisions?

Now that they have made their endorsement, does any of their readers trust the reporting - for the next 7 weeks - (knowing the editorial & production staff will make certain they don't end up with egg on face.... cough - cough)?

I mean, historically in the past, how many times has a newspaper - that made a political choice in an election - admit just a few days/week before the voting that they may have made a mistake?

Count on all the news reported from that publication - from now until Nov 8 - to be carefully crafted (aka: NBC edited) to make certain they prove they've made the proper choice.

when in reality, they have no business making such a choice in the first place.

My local newspaper (Gannet-owned) still makes political endorsements from President on down. I don't know why they do it since my State is consistently Republican and the newspaper is very liberal.

Not for anything useful.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram (or as it is commonly known here as the "Startle-Gram" because they over-sensationalize everything they report on) does the same thing. No one gives a crap about them either.

I'd bet there are a lot of old people that just cancelled their subscription because of that.

Mark Twain was right.

Years ago, attention was paid to the traditional news outlets.
Today, not so much.

I still get the WSJ delivered to my house every day. I read it on my lunch hour. There is something about reading from a piece of paper as opposed to reading from a screen (which I do all day at work)

I used to get the Saint Louis Post Disgrace (Dispatch) delivered also but canceled it a number of years ago since they were so obviously liberal bent that I couldn't stand to read what they called journalism. Also since I'm really not a Cardinals fan, that ruled out about half of the "news" in each days paper

I canceled the paper around 2002 or so. They still will leave one in my driveway once or twice a week, usually the Wednesday paper. We think that's because it has the grocery store specials and they probably have to print X amount of those for their advertisers, and need to give them away if needed. We just toss it in the trash. The other day the Joplin Globe guy was sitting at Sam's Club, on a Sunday, giving out free papers. He looked like a forlorn puppy, nobody that I saw took one. My wife said to him, when he asked if we'd like a free paper, "No, and it would be great if you'd stop leaving them in my driveway, I cancelled 15 years ago." Brutal.

Here, unless you care about HS sports coverage, all it has is AP wire stories, really lame opinion section, and hacky buddy-buddy local coverage.

For decades I had at least two papers a day delivered to my home.

I got sick and tired of seeing the massive swing to the left on almost all the papers. I finally stopped getting the Boston globe after they ran a front page article on a Code pink demonstration in Boston with almost 200 attendees but put the Tea party protesters in the back with a single column even after they admitted nearly 2,000 showed up.

I now try to get my news on line and then when I see something that I like I try to fact check it since everyone spins things their way.

Newspapers have been rich boi playthings-Take the Washington Post for example. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos-notorious liberal Clinton supporter. it is 100% anti Trump all the time. 100%. Any negative story about Clinton is in small font, buried in the back.
