Default Saw the motherlode today (cool story but no pics)

I work in a dealership in the parts department. Our driver is on vacation this week so I volunteered to drive. Same pay, easy work.
I went to deliver to a body shop today. Pulled up to two large metal buildings, neither with signage. One had a roll up door opened about two and a half feet and I could see the rear of a '71/72 Chevelle SS and figured that had to be the one. Knocked on what looked to be an office door, no answer so I opened it and stepped in. Seeing no one I yelled out, "Hello! Anyone home?"
An older man (turns out he was seventy) walked through a door on the other side of the room and asked if he could help me. I asked if this was ******** Body Shop, and he replied no, they were across the street. I apologized for bothering him and said I thought maybe it was since I saw the '71 SS in the door. He acted surprised that I knew what it was and told me this was his building where he kept part of his car collection. I asked how many he had, and he said a few, and asked would I like to see them. I said sure! I walked across the room, through the door, and around the corner. I thought I had entered Heaven!
First was the 1971 Chevelle SS, LS5, 454/365 all stock down to the wheels. With A/C and Turbo 400. Mulsanne blue/black top and interior. He told me he had about 32k in it and had been appraised at 55k. I figured more with the LS5 and A/C.
In front of that was a '72 Nova SS, 350 LT1, auto. With A/C also! Black, black interior. He said he originally owned this car in '73/74, sold it, then bought it back thirty years later.
In front of this one to the left was...a 1966 Corvette, 427/425, four speed, and oh my god...A/C! Nassau blue, original paint and knock off wheels. Paint was just fair on this one but it is sixty years old. And a 427, stick, A/C car!
In front of this was a '58 Corvette roadster, red with red interior, white coves and top. Stock white walls, hub caps, 283 fuel injected! Absolutely beautiful.
To the right of that was a '57 Bel Air Coupe, silver with black. It had a built 350 and four speed with Cragar wheels. Very nice.
Right side of that had the only "work in progress " car. 1955 Chevy Nomad two door wagon. It was stripped to bare metal and frame.
Off to the right of the Nova and Chevelle against the wall were two '40 Ford Coupes (one red, one blue), a '38 Coupe, and a '34 no fendered Convertible (red). All modded with late model drive trains. Also a thirty something ratrod Ford pick up. In front of it was a newly built flathead engine he said should be about 240/260 horse power.
In the middle of all these Fords were two more Corvettes. One, up on a lift, was a '79 White L82 four speed he said he bought new (and dated his wife in) and a '70 Mulsanne blue, blue interior Vert with an LT1 and the white stripes around the hood.
He said he estimated there was about $1.5 million in cars in this building. THIS BUILDING!!! I then remembered he said this was part of his collection.
He also had a couple of his drivers there, a late model Tahoe, a fairly new Silverado, and new CTS Cadillac.
We talked for a few about what he had and cars I have owned. I asked how come no Mopars? He said he didn't like 'em, and asked if I noted the newest Ford were the 1940 models? Said he didn't think Ford built a pretty car after the '40.
He did say he would rather me not take any pics but I could come back any time I saw a car parked in the lot and visit again. Maybe next time he will let me take a few pics. Or see the rest of the collection.

You just never know. Some deep pockets around Chat. and N.GA. I've known of a few people with money that had similar collections.

I was visiting with a client of my wife over the weekend and got to see some of his toys. We have cultivated a friendship over the years...this man is in his early 80's.

In the garage was a 57 Corvette Fuelie, all original 3 Speed manual. Next to it was a 61 Corvette, all original, Auto car. Driveway there was a couple of late 50's Oldsmobiles in really great shape.

He has a building North of LA where he has an entire collection of cars...I've been invited to check it out, I will one of these days.

One thing he showed me was ASTONISHING though. He has an unissued Trapdoor Springfield rifle. It was amazing, still had grease in the barrel. Amazing rifle.
