Just picked up a 2-3 micrometer for the opening bid of $9.99

Take notice of the "Central Tool" brand. This is an under rated , high quality made in the USA precision measuring tool. If you find a Central Tool that was made in Rhode Island, it's high quality and not to be confused with asian crap.

All my similar stuff is made by the losers of WW2, plus Taiwan, and the motor on the similar shade of green drill press went out quickly, so I put on an old appliance motor, from a scrap washing machine.....hell, my bench grinder is an old dryer motor, no guards, stone on one end, wire on the other.....wide open....been using that for about 40 years now.....same stone/wheel.....

It's tools I get for me, why start a new thread everytime?

Scott's been busy with his business. I'm sure he'll stop in when he has time to breathe.

What are you searching for when you find this stuff?
Do you go "I think I want a new chuck" and go looking then and there? or do you have some searches set up with keywords? or...???

When I look for a drill chuck, I use "Jacobs" and when looking at pictures, I make sure I find either made in the USA or Hartford Conn.

When I looked for the vernier calipers, I put in "Starrett 123" in the advanced search.

I used "milling vise" for my latest purchase. It's an import sold by Shars and the price shipped was better from their website.

Not ebay but my boss got this for me on some machines he purchased for the shop.

Famco No 3 arbor press. Weighs in at 160 lbs and has three tons of force.

The handle is too long and the stop will come off. The last picture shows that no idiots beat the top of the ram for that little bit of extra force

Cool

The ebay seller accepted my best offer and I'll have a DRO ( digital readout ) for my benchtop milling machine shortly.

It will allow me to make parts much easier as right now I have a pair 2" travel indicators set up. The DRO will allow me to use the 6" x 12" working area without readjusting the indicators.

Just upgraded to a 3 axis DRO. I was able to use the "old" glass scales on the X ( left right) and the Y (front back) / I had purchased a 4" DRO for the quill ( Z axis or up/down) but it was grey and VERY hard to read.

I was able to use that mount for the vertical glass scale and made a little sheetmetal piece to connect the reader to the threaded rod.

Now I have a nice, bright DRO for my Z axis too. Plus this DRO has a lot more features

First picture is the glass scale held up next to dim DRO

Second picture is the new DRO ( digital Read Out ). It has a few more features to make life easier. The "1/2" is used to find the center of the part. Edge find one side and hit "zero", then go to the other side and hit "1/2". It just calculated the exact center.
The "cal" allows you set any dimension in any of the axis. If I rough milled a pocket in a part .600 deep, I can change endmills, touch the bottom and then enter .600 "cal" and it sets it automatically.
It has a bolt pattern feature, a corner radius feature plus can instantly switch between metric and inch.

Third picture is the little sheetmetal part I made to attach the scale reader to the threaded rod on the quill.

Fourth and fifth pics are up and down showing the difference in the Z value.

Nice, I worked for a company in central PA that did a lot of precision machining as part of our assembly process.

Far more precision than I’ll ever see in my shop. +/- 1/32”, close enough!
