Default Remodeled a big part of my house, framed up some Corvette artwork for the area...

Framed some of the nicer Corvette prints I have for the area of my house I just redecorated. Working on the kitchen demolition now.

As for the area itself...

Before... dark green in the "dining" room w/ yellow in the eating area/kitchen, all wood trim, wood bannister & column dividing areas, 80's era blinds etc. etc.

After... new paint, all trim caulked and painted (the vast majority of the work), new blinds, recovered window treatments, new outlets, new door hardware, etc...

Door hardware before...

After...

No more column/bannister

Ripped up a section of the leno to see if it was going to be a huge PITA like I'd read on the web... apparently mine was installed poorly... pulled right up and adhesive left over comes off easily.

Next on the list is kitchen remodel... started basic demo on that. Removed the bar in prep to level it out w/ the rest of the counter so I can have more usable space when the new counters are put in.

Here's a before from a similar angle showing the little bar section and the wooden trim around the laundry area and cabinet etc. I also shaved the phone wall jack and a cable jack by the bar as I never intend to have a land line and I don't need a cable outlet there.

Picked my tile... going with 12" multi-colored slate for the floor and 2" mosaic for the backsplash. Should look infinitely better than the pink-hued linoleum and plain off-white backsplash currently in place. Cabinets will be white to match the trim with new brushed hardware and the counters will be black granite w/ a nice flake and a single-basin 30x17" SS undermount sink.

Looking good Brian. You've got quite a flair for interior design.

Is that an Adam Lambert CD I hear in the background?

Looks like you've been busy - I was just wondering what you've been up to. Hope you don't run into any problems with the remodel. I feel your pain

Haha... don't have to be a homo to like design/architecture After all this is done the next big project will be re-doing my double-sided fireplace in stacked slate (tearing down the wood on it now) and setting it up for a flat panel TV over the family room side.

Very cool, looks like fun. You must not be married having Vette parts all over the house. LOL If you are your wife must be very cool.

I did... that's a very old picture from an album on my old laptop. Only thing I could dig up to show the before condition of the room. GF deleted all my before and in-progress pics.

Purchased new counter tops from Rock Solid in Black St. Gabriel w/ a 1/2 bullnose edge and a 30x16 single basin undermount sink.

Kitchen demolition underway... tile backsplash isn't coming off very easily, but the drywall may be salvagable w/ a few patches and lots of spackeling... less work then putting up all new drywall. Appliances will be delivered Monday, not sure when Rock Solid will come template the new counter tops.

Found a $5 gift certificate to Applebee's from a long time ago... there's no expiration date on it so I'm goin to try and use it It was behind the cabinets to the left of the oven.

Also, pulled out the owners manual to the range to make sure I didn't blow my self up taking it out (original house owners and owners previous to me kept all the original appliance manuals)... noticed something very cool... english only, no directions in spanish or any other language, was circa 1986.

Kitchen before

Old range/oven removed, cabinet doors off, tile demo underway, new garbage disposal came in.

After taking Monday off and 3am late nights Tuesday and Wednesday the uppers are all done w/ new hardware. Had to get them done so I could put the dishes back in and clean the house up for the New Year's party. Hanging cabinet doors w/ new hinges is time consuming to get it all right. Working on finishing the bar remodel and taking the old counters off as the granite is being installed on Thursday.

Close-up of the new hinges and handles

Wow ! That's quite a project, but you're really making progress. Looks real good!

If you take this poster to Carlisle, Dana Forrester will sign it for you. That's what I did.

VERY nice! Such a big difference, too. I like the white cabinets in the kitchen - they'll look really good w/ the darker tile and black granite counter top.

We've been "threatening" to remodel the master bath and kitchen but we're still at a standoff on the tile each of us likes for the shower and bathroom floor. We'll eventually find something we both really like but until then I'm doubting we're tearing anything up.

End cabinet piece to the left of the dishwaser was just a particle board end of a base cabinet cut off and toe-nailed into the wall. Was loose so I re-inforced it and salvaged the piece. Didn't want to risk putting the weight of granite on top of it.

Deteriorating particle board

Used a masonry bit and lead mollys (like what you use in drywall but for concrete) to secure a 1X to the floor.

Reinforced the existing stringers with 2.5" wood screws on all.

New framework done and end board installed... much sturdier than before.

Started on the under cabinet lights... using Utilitech 120v xenon puck-style lights. Wiring them in series and going to wire them to their own switch.
