Looks like the Op-rod is back and the bolt is open. Not exactly something you would expect to see on an M1. Hopefully the person who dropped it had a better fate than his rifle.

Depending on where it was found (obviously) WWII would be my guess. They were used from WWII through Korea in mass. Sparingly after that...

Although some foreign countries have used them in other wars so that is a possibility as well.

Not including the cost of equipment...but just counting bullets, primers, powder (I save my brass so I don't calculate that)

$0.126 per 9mm
$0.162 per .40

Somewhere in there, all depends on your cost of the above mentioned supplies.

But when you want to shoot a lot, I'd say its worth it in the long run, plus you generally get a more accurate round when you do it yourself.

A couple of Civil War muskets dug from a local battlefield in the 50s. One is an Austrian Lorenze with a ball still loaded in it.

Only crusty rusty gun related thing I have is some brass and bullets collected off of a European beach.

But I do have "old". Oldest gun I have is a 12 ga semi-auto. Don't know how old, old enough that Numrich doesn't have parts (didn't know that was possible).
The barrel recoils like the slide on a pistol in order to eject the shell. Never taken a picture of it.

There's this double barrel shotgun I made 30 years ago. It's a 64 caliber (13 guage) black powder -

And his 45 caliber little brother -

This F.I.E. Titan II 380acp is from the mid-80s -

For that matter my TEC-9 is as old. First year of production -

(Yeah, I know this gun gives cops nightmares )

And while this is not a gun it is Vietnam Era old -

They charge extra for rust? Dunno, I just bought a replacement plate today because the old one was unreadable. Cost me $5.
