What a day
I get to the office about 5am. Around 8am is when I usually take a break and walkover to a store a block or so away and get a donut or a burrito. So I'm walking down the street and see a cop car up ahead go by on a cross street.
When I get up to the intersection, there he is across the street and I see a black lady sitting down on the sidewalk. I cross over and walkng towards them since the store was just beyond them. She's sitting on the ground crying her eyes out. I asked the cop whats up with her and he replied "she won't talk to me." It appeared to me this woman was probably homeless but great dispare. So I squat down and ask her if she would like something to eat? This got response with a simple head shaking yes. I tell the cop I'll be right back. Well, I got a couple donuts for me and a nice breakfast burrito and a little jug of milk for her. Brought it back and handed it to her and I could see gratefulness like I have never seen before and I'm a 62 yr old man who's been around a while. She seemed like she was not long away from stepping in front of a train or off a ledge. I see homeless every day all day screwing around or panhandling doing whatever it is they do but nothing like this. Cop said thanks and off I went. Been choking up all day and finally let loose a while ago. I don't know what they did with her after I left but I hope it was something positive. Just never seen anyone with nothing and has all but lost all will to go on and just does not know who or how to ask. |

It’s hard to separate the really needy from the lazy and crazy. Sometimes it takes a leap of faith.

You did good! I wish there was a lot less scammers out there, it would be so much easier to help those that really do need it. Just this Saturday I was heading to the office for a few things and there was a guy with a “homeless and hungry” sign. The car in front of me rolled down their window and handed him a cluster of grapes, the look on his face was priceless!

Hebrews 13: 1Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. 2Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.

I seem to have things like this happen a couple times a year. Makes me wonder if God throws them at me to see if I'm still woth a shit. Not exactly like this but situations that need instant attention that will put me out yet helping another. I was in the movies with my wife and in the middle of it some lady was walkng up the aisle to leave but she was semi blind and stumbling around. I said screw it and got up and got her out to the lobby and sat with her until her kid showed up-at the end of the movie. |

Yesterday one of the employees brought a 90 yr old upstairs with his walker, his wife and a Westie. While they were up here, the elevator was shut down for maintenance.
When it was time for them to leave, I was walking around doing something when I was hit up to help them. I figured wth! Headed for the elevator and sht! So we asked if he wanted to go down the stairs. He really had no choice and he was fine with it. We got to more helpers. Felt like we were on those stairs a week & a half. |

I no longer give to the homeless. After years and years of doing so, and they, continually taking advantage of what was left of my good nature, I drew a line, and quit enabling them. |

You're a nice guy, Slewfoot. I see a guy at the red light at my exit every day. He has the same cardboard sign and ratty ass look. The other day, though, was a little different since he had turned into a she. It really was a different person. She was the typical crack/meth head. Just that one day and he was right back the next day. Did he rent out the spot? Did she beat his ass and run him off only to have her ass beat and the spot taken back? So many questions....
