I have never owned a car or truck that had a key fob..

And always easy to find the key to my motorcycle, it's usually in it.

I surprised the car doesn't shut down once it get a certain distance from the fob.

Now that you point it out I guess it isn't very cordial on my part.

It was a Buick Lacrosse I think, anyways it was on push button start. I asked her what she did with her keys when she turned the car off. She showed me that she would turn it off and put the key in her purse. She got out of the car and closed the door and it did 3 quick honks, indicating there was a key in the car. I asked her if she had a spare key, she said yes it was in the glove box.

This lady left the fob to the push to start car in the glove box. I told her, she can't leave her key in the glove box, she looked so puzzled and couldn't understand why. I had to literally show her how easily it could be stolen by walking her back inside our service driver. I told her to hit the lock button, she did. I walked back out hit the button on the door handle, got in the car and drove it to the other side of the service bay.

Needless to say she said she was gonna leave the key in her condo from now on.
Grandma got high teched.

Doesn't your car tell you when the keys are not inside the car?

My car rarely talks to me, but my cat tells me I should kill people. Is this normal?

Classic over use of electronics, computers, just because they CAN, and something stupid for the car lots/dealers to sell, like they impressing gullible people with.....

Much less something that no one can FIX WHEN it blows up, take a full blown EE or ET to wire around some stupid 600 buck 'body control' computer, as if the car body needs a damn computer in the first place.....I have had to wire around/bypass two trucks because of battery drain problems due to excessive computers......

There must be something wrong with your car sensor. The car is not suppose to be able to start unless the key fob is sensed in between the car doors. I've tried to start mine before with the FOB sitting on the work bench right next to the car it popped up a message, "FOB not present".

This is definitely an issue that GM needs to address.

No, it isn't...All keyless cars act like that.

Being locked out or unable to restart the car once you intentionally shut the engine off is a convenience issue.

Designing cars to shut off unexpectedly when fob goes out of range (or if the fob battery fails while driving) becomes a serious safety issue. Creating a situation of cars stranded in traffic is a great way to get people injured or killed.
