Default Amazon.com tries to choke California; Toshiba Glasses-Free 3D TV Coming in December

Amazon Offers Tax Compromise
Amazon has offered a compromise its standoff with the state of California over its new online sales tax. The company has offered to build new distribution centers- creating jobs in the process- in exchange for exemption from the tax, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The company has offered to create 7,000 new jobs in exchange for not paying the tax through 2014.

Amazon announced that it was pulling out of the state once the tax was enacted, and has moved to place a ballot initiative overturning the new law.

Toshiba’s 55-inch glasses-free 3DTV goes on sale this December
Toshiba is no stranger to glasses-free 3D televisions. It started to release glasses-free 3DTVs with smaller screens in Japan in December 2010. Unfortunately, those televisions didn’t sell so well due to their price. That’s not stopping Toshiba from releasing a much larger 3DTV this December in Germany. Other European countries will get this television at a later date.

Toshiba has claimed the title of the first manufacturer to bring a large-screen, glasses-free 3DTV to the mass market. The Toshiba 55ZL2 is a 55-inch television that not only produces 3D images for “a large group of viewers,” but it also displays 2D images at four times 1080p resolution (3,840 x 2,160).

Additional features include allowing the iPhone to control the television using Toshiba Apps Connect. Television programs can also be recorded from the TV to an external storage device through a USB connection.

The elephant in the room is price. Toshiba isn’t ready to announce that yet. We’re pretty sure it’ll be very expensive.

Good for Amazon--Cali would be stupid not to accept that offer. But then again, it is Cali

Most states waive all kind of crap for new jobs. It's too late for CA; businesses are leaving as fast as they can.

Amazon outta tell 'em to eff off; no taxes until 3014.

And they shouldn't do that. Want your state to add jobs? Make the business environment in your state better than in other states for all business, not just cherry picked ones, or ones that promise to add jobs.

Giving one business a break not available to all businesses is completely wrong. If CA wants to keep Amazon, they should eliminate the sales tax for all the internet based businesses within the state, and not let themselves be held hostage by one company.

Texas has already had its dust-up with Amazon over sales tax, resulting in Amazon closing it's distribution warehouse here and "taking their marbles and going elsewhere." The suit is still pending, but the jobs are gone.

The sales tax laws of most states seem pretty clear. If you have a physical presence in the state (an office, a warehouse, land, something), then any sale you make within the state is taxable, period. If Amazon has a warehouse in CA, then Californians should pay state sales tax on purchases from Amazon.

Agreed, but our political system is so screwed up with handing out favor for one over another, in ALL aspects, that I doubt it'll ever recover

CA made the classic mistake everyone makes: they thought the good times would last forever and they could screw business as hard as they wanted to.
Their ridiculous legacy of waste and spending will be left for individuals to take care of as everybody (business) who can possibly relocate is relocating.

State taxes and services are out of control; the proliferation of state employees and state agencies is insane. And yeah, I absolutely include police in that.

Damn right I'll bail when you start screwing me. Good for Amazon for leaving Texas, another state will be glad to have them.
