This is all I needed. Got summoned for jury duty in Springfield. So now I have to drive 70 miles each way, and it will be a total waste of time because they will never select someone like me to be on a jury. They want wishy-washy types, not a guy with an engineering degree who works for a living.

i was on call last fall, did voir dire once, not picked....yep, another engineer, although retired presently. they also like the true stories about my BIL judge getting fired by the FL supreme court from his job on the bench, and my cousin getting convicted of running a ponzi scheme and mail fraud. yeah, he's in fed prison. dumbass.

Their online juror information form really didn't give me an option other than "Is there a reason you can't attend?" Yes/No. Fact is, I can.

At any rate if it's like last time, I'll call the number before I leave the house and find out the trial was cancelled or rescheduled. Then you're completely off the hook.

And no, it didn't come certified mail but the mail carrier notes in their log that they physically placed it in my mailbox (found this out from my friend the City Attorney.) They will summons you to the courthouse if you just "accidentally" didn't see the summons, and you could get 3 days in jail and a $100 fine.

And yes, there are some fine bars in Springfield. Should I visit one for a few hours before I appear?

One of the few good things about turning 70 in Texas. No more jury duty, ever. I've been called way too many times in the past and never sat on a single case.

I live on an island in a community where half the people live here only part time.

As such, I get called for jury duty about every 8 months.

I think I'm going to change my address on my license to my other house in Jacksonville to stop this shit.

Guaranteed-to-work excuses to get out of jury duty:

Criminal case: I don't know what evidence you have against him, but I can tell from his beady little eyes that he's guilty.

Civil case: I figure if you got sued you musta done something wrong.

I can relate to the drive. 70 miles each way for work eveyday. This past monday there was an accident on the No. bound 405. It took me 2 1/2 hours to get home. 1 1/2 in the morning. I spent 4 hours on the road Monday.
