J-B Weld Question
I have copper gutters on my house and was wondering if J-B Weld would be a good item to repair a seven inch crack in the bottom of the gutter where the water runs over. Water is leaking out of the bottom of the gutter through said crack at the moment.

Probably, but why not solder it if it's copper?

I've soldered a shit-ton of copper pipe. I never even thought to solder the gutters. Prep might be a PITA though, but not impossible.

I would clean up the area to be soldered with a wire wheel. Let us know how it works and don't go all Spence on us and fall off the ladder, burn yourself or set the barn on fire.

Hell, I lost a week of work, two weeks ago, just putting an awning down. That was one mofo of a concussion. I really hope that I'm not turning all Spence ... If it ever stops raining and I can get out there, I will definitely let you know how it went. |

You can get some copper sheeting by the foot at auto parts stores, they used to use it to make custom gaskets. I used to sell it. Then just solder a patch over the crack after you wire wheel it bare. I'd use some pipe flux as well.
P.S. --don't tell many people you have solid copper eaves or one day you'll come home and they'll be gone! |

Being a very thin crack, I couldn't just fill it with the solder?

If it's visible, then do the copper solder repair. If it's not, then put a piece of bituthene (ice and water shield) over the crack. Do you know any contractors? You could probably get one to give you a small piece for the repair as it can get spendy to buy a whole roll of it!
Good luck |

I have Ice & Water Shield. It is totally viable from the inside, not the outside, so I could just lay a piece in there and it would never be seen from the ground. |

I had two areas where my aluminum gutters were leaking last autumn and used bituthene (ice and water shield) in the inside of the gutter. It worked for awhile but both areas are leaking now.
If it was me I would try the solder route. Sand, flux, solder. |
