Bloomberg also said urban crime-fighting required cities to "spend the money" and "put a lot of cops in the streets," particularly in "minority neighborhoods," where he said the crime is. He also acknowledged the "unintended consequences" of the policy.

"So one of the unintended consequences is people say, 'Oh my God, you are arresting kids for marijuana that are all minorities.' Yes, that's true. Why? Because we put all the cops in minority neighborhoods," Bloomberg is heard saying on the recording. "Yes, that's true. Why do we do it? Because that's where all the crime is. And the way you get the guns out of the kids' hands is to throw them up against the wall and frisk them... And then they start... 'Oh I don't want to get caught.' So they don't bring the gun. They still have a gun, but they leave it at home."

On some things, obviously, no. The cops know the areas where 90+% of the street murders occur, and there should be a greater police presence there regardless of the ethnic make-up of the neighborhood. To do so is neither predatory nor racist, so IMO, that part of what he said is right.

However, I think "stop and frisk" is against the Constitution whether or not there is any racial targeting involved. Something about "illegal search and seizure". So on that part, I think he is wrong.

There are more assumptions in there that liberals will go bonzo over that don't upset me much.

Out in public =/= privacy of home.

They can search may car all day every day and they won't find anything to arrest me for. It really doesn't even take any effort to not carry illegal shit in my car.

It would eventually piss me off that I was getting stopped and searched constantly, but I don't believe it happens to people that often who are not already known to the police.
