Harry, you are a fascinating source of knowledge. What makes it even more impressive is the fact your knowledge was garnered when Google was just a twinkle in the eye of its founders when they were still a twinkle in the eye of their parental units. Back when you had to go to a library to research stuff. And likewise, if you wanted to look at pictures of naked honeys, you had to go to the corner liquor store and browse the magazine selection there.

You are kind indeed. The reason I followed my chosen career path is that, when I was in college, a Smith-Corona electric typewriter was the limit of available technology and I learned to use the Dewey Decimal system, a slide rule and hated the physical act of writing (I was taught a copperplate script hand which was slow, tedious, and after a couple of paragraphs, physically painful). Math became an obvious choice, bullshitting for a living became an available option and Tricky Dicky no longer required my services after April of 1971.

All that said, learning is fun...as I stagger into my 66th year (my teeth are 65, the rest of me is not yet there but will be soon), I'm pursuing another professional certification obtained after reading 16" of textbooks and am contemplating pursuing yet another career.

The essence of living is acquiring skill sets, the more the better, and their utility for a current task is not required. Computers, the interweb and occasional periods of sobriety all help in that endeavor.

Mentioning that Smith-Corona brings back memories of the early 70's when my mother went to Sears and bought one. Me, being a gadget addict even as a young boy, couldn't wait to try out the new electric typewriter. My mother, on the other had, had visions of me jamming up the keys much like I had on the toy typewriter my sister had. So she told me I would have to wait until I took a typing class and learned the proper way to type before using the treasured Smith-Corona. The 8th grade was a long ways off, but I jumped at the chance to take the first typing class I was offered. Now even the IBM Selectric is ancient technology, let alone that Smith-Corona. Never did I think about back then my mother's wisdom in making me take typing would be of use for hours a day on the keyboard, but I think she knew it.
