More good news..

I'm not sure where the donations came from, but 100 8 foot X 10 foot huts were donated to people in our village.

Rob and I decided to wait on cutting more lumber for people while he was here until we saw who all got these huts.

It turns out that people we have been cutting wood for, were passed over as they already had some materials, so we were hurting them more than helping them it seemed as we were not going to build complete, and only giving them some lumber.

Many ended up getting huts anyways as I kept mum on who all we helped other than the ones we promised to build full huts for.

All 100 huts were given away now, and I am starting to cut more lumber already for the ones who need help the most.

Also some who received these huts need to build something larger, or rebuild what they had before so will be lacking materials.

You have no idea how exciting these pics are! I kept hoping I would get to see some progress while I was there but I know getting all of the materials take time. I am just excited to see it finally coming together - especially since I know all of these people and know where their houses are.

I cannot wait to get back over there to see all of you! I started looking at airfare yesterday and just need to nail down a date.

Not sure if I will tell you or just show up this next time, I know the way

I have more money when the time comes - just keep me posted on what is needed and I will send you some more money.

These people are my friends and cannot think of a better place for me to spend a little extra money.

It wiped villages off the map and devastated cities, including the hard-hit provincial capital Tacloban. Estimates count more than 5,000 dead and millions homeless. What made Haiyan so destructive? Meteorologists charged with tracking Pacific storms reveal why the Pacific is such fertile ground for cyclones, and NOVA’s film crew documents how conditions dramatically deteriorated in the storm’s aftermath, as impassable roads and shuttered gas stations paralyzed the critical relief effort, leaving food, water, and medicine to pile up at the airport. Disaster preparedness experts scramble to understand why the Philippines was so vulnerable. As climate change and sea level rise threaten millions of the world’s most impoverished people with stronger, and perhaps more frequent, storms, how can we prepare for the next monster typhoon?

Sorry it has been so long since I last updated anything here.

Progress has been slow as materials are hard to get at times, saw cutters are hard to get at times, and not reliable so have to keep finding new ones, Carpenters are busy and hard to find...

... and also my camera died, so borrowed one from a friend today to get some pics of some of the peoples huts we are helping to rebuild.

Family of Robert finally getting a new roof, and will be finished tomorrow.

Temp home at the front.

Marpong's family place now.

Mother of Pinoy's Hut

Bamboo flooring

Inday & Roming's new home, also their daughter Devina and her child.

Actually this is two homes combined into one.

Nonoy and Mira's new hut

Dodong's family hut

Cocoy walking up the street and their hut that is on hold waiting for a carpenter to finish

Franky and Beka's place is started but waiting for more materials.

Napoleon & Family Home coming along nicely.

Nestor's place

Father of Joel and Napoleon home.

Donnie's place

Tata's place almost finished.

Mother of Tata

Faye and Jolimar's place started but waiting for a carpenter to finish

Onik's and mothers have been started on,

Dodong & Laurna's place started.

Ernings hut finished

Lusing's hut finished

Tim, what is the purpose of the boards or rocks/concrete at the bottom of some of the huts?

It is temporary until they can get hollow blocks and concrete.

Some of the coco lumber post are set on top of harder wood post that will last a lot longer in the soil also.

It is amazing seeing the village all nice and lined with finished huts. I cannot wait to get over there and see them all in person.

I notice most everyone went with plywood instead of amakan, did the Brgy get some plywood donations or possibly did Juvvy help these people out some?

Is Devina the one that would stare me down whenever I was out front? Maybe I should send her a Valentines card

No supplies for amakan anymore so I started buying plywood instead, I was getting tired of having to look homeless friends in the eye and telling them there was no stock..

Juvy gave nothing away, she got to choose who got huts that were donated by the Polish organization that helped our village out, and she made money one each and every one..

Yes Devina was the one eyeballing you pretty hard...

After me getting cussed out just for us being over there that day by both Irish and MC.... do you really think that would be a good idea?? :

They moved to their new home now, by the time you get back all of our neighbors will be gone except Erning.

I still want to go visit them - hopefully far enough away that we are not watched

Also, is Erning's tent still up? Has he moved out of it and into his hut? Maybe I can stay in the tent this time, I might need the extra space

Most of them are moving just over by the school to 20 X 20 foot lots.

Erning is kind of a strange cat..

He prefers to sleep outside, and only uses his tent to store his stuff, and only sleeps in his tent when it rains.

I offered to help move his stuff into his new hut but he keeps putting it off for some reason.

I was hoping to get him to take his tent down sometimes soon as it really blocks our ocean view.

Not long ago some people came through here taking some kind of survey, they asked him how old he was.

He replied "three pieces"
