[QUOTE=snide;358993]I'm sure it's going to take more than just a week or two of training.

He's is snuggled up next to me napping right now. I'm trying not to treat him like a tornado victim. We've only had him 12 days. Thanks!

I was really hoping you would be wrong this time, but you weren't. Poor Connor.
Seriously though 2 weeks is not enough time what was she not thinking? Bring a dog into the house, let the child(ren) get attached and then dispose of the dog. Yep, she's nominated for the mother(****er) of the year award.

Did his frog come back?

Hitting a dog is the wrong approach. It makes them head shy and they end up not trusting people and biting more. Especially when people reach out to pet them.

You have to think like a dog. Understand the rules of the pack. Pain is not the lever. Dominance is the lever.

Dominant dogs don't hit. They growl, show teeth and nip.

Tone of voice and a quick jab to the shoulder is far more effective. The shoulder is where momma dog nips.

Shock collars, hitting, beating, kicking...none of that builds trust and respect. If a dog respects your leadership, he will not bite.

Hitting in the nose can damage their nasal passages.

I have learned this raising and training German Shepherds for 3 decades.

Show them affection and respect, be consistent and be the pack leader. Dogs are very attuned to humans. You only have to show displeasure. No need to exaggerate. They get it.

They notice the smallest movements. For example, when we walk off leash, Hanna instantly sees my leg movements and turns with me, anticipates stops and starts. She sees EVERYTHING.

No internet fighting from me about dog training.

We all do what works for us, I guess, and some of the methods Thrakk doesn't like, I detest as well (beating, for instance.)

Love the GSD pix. They are my favorite dog. Period. [Don't tell the rest of my crew that! ]

Agreed. I wasn't referencing your "smack 'em in the nose" posts. I know you are a gentle soul.

And make no mistake, there have been times I've had to go medieval on my dogs to get the point across. But generally, I focus on building trust and loyalty and asserting my dominance. Which can be challenging with 100 lb GSD's - they live to dominate.

I don't know about biting dogs.

I was once told how to stop a dog from humping your leg; pick him him up and suck his dick.

I don't own a dog because I have no desire to correct the leg humping.
