Default Barn Raising I - Update Thread
We took in everyone's suggestions and came up with what we believe will be a fun weekend. There is one major change however:

Our "Gathering" (or whatever it will be called) will be held the weekend of May 20-22. This is the weekend PRIOR TO Memorial Day Weekend. Why? Many of you requested Autocross and Corvette related events (I mean let's face it...without Corvette events, it's just a party). The Lone Star Corvette Club holds their annual "Classic" at The Texas Motor Speedway. This includes a car show, autocross, "hot laps" (where you can actually take your car out for laps on the big oval), vendors and much more. I've been to the Classic several times and it's an outstanding event. PaulaH, the gal who does those beautiful custom hood liners, is a member of LSCC and is in touch with the event planning committee. We have coordinated with those folks to tag along to their event.

This will give folks a great "Corvette related" activity to attend. Other activities that we plan on including will be a Golf outing, a cruise through the backroads of Texas which will include a lunch stop, target shooting at one of the local ranges, a shopping outing for the ladies and of course, a catered dinner at my place throughout most of the weekend. Many of you may wish to visit Dealy Plaza and the Schoolbook Repository (the JFK Assassination site).

We still have some activities and details to work out, but we made a bunch of progress. The date is set however, so make your plans now. We will be calling a few of the local hotels in the next few days to see if we can arrange a special rate for everyone. We're also going to look into lodging for military members who may wish to stay on base (NAS Fort Worth JRB is about 20 mins from here).

For those who asked, the Texas Rangers are not playing in town that weekend. Sorry!

More details to come very soon. If you have some basic questions, I'll try to answer them in this thread. If it becomes a freeposting event, I'll have to lock it.

Again...the weekend is now set, and we're leaving it as is so that we may have more events. We hope this will make it easier for more folks to attend. If you think you might be coming...post up!

Agreed! We're going to put out a lot of options so that folks can tailor their own activities and still party with the Barn folks in the evening.

I am so glad to hear that there is an alternative to the CF Cruise-In. It's always best when a person has a choice, and this newly announced gethering is a breath of fresh air.

As a suggestion, think of holding a yearly event like this.... in a different locale/region each year. That allows for an overall broader participation of Barn members over the years.

Can we perhaps put a list together for those of us who are flying in and will need a ride to the barnraising, that way if its a fairly small number we all can chip in on one rental car so we all aren't renting cars, keeps each others costs down too

I know some of the folks here wanted the 1st event to be at "The Barn". That said, there no reason we cant plan the next one there or another one later in the year. But I agree also, we can move it around each year to different locations.
