Thanks everyone for the well wishes.

I will get the number from him. I was praying as well as my family. Prayers are always welcomed.

Where'd the rest of the month go?

After getting out of the hospital, I spent the next week in bed. Basically had no energy to do anything. I'm thinking it was the antibiotics I was on, but effect was that I felt like I had pneumonia.

On Monday last week, I had an appointment with the wound care department at the hospital. While there, one of the nurses noticed that I was sweating bullets, was having difficulty breathing, along with minor chest pains. So, they admitted me.

On Wednesday, the wound care doctor performed a surgical procedure on my leg wound, to clean it up. Now, I have to pack the wound with citric acid (vinegar) dressings. Yes, the pain is excruciating! But no pain, no gain, right?

Late Friday afternoon, I was released from hospital. Trying to get back into the swing of work, but I'm going to take it easy for the first couple of days. Still on the antibiotics which are kicking my ass.

I recently had spinal surgery and instead of taking the morphine and opioids, I started taking over the counter NSAIDs. Later, I got to feeling really bad, weak, tired didn't feel like doing anything. Slept a lot. I thought I may have pneumonia. Went to a clinic twice thinking I had pneumonia. Second time they could not see any reason so they said they could not help me and suggested I go to an emergency room which I did.

Doctor told me that the NSAIDs were making me very tired and drowsy. Stopped those pills and felt much better.

Aleve has been the only thing that has worked on my pain. However, it also may have been instrumental in the first trip to the ER. I can no longer take any NSAIDs, including Aleve.

Glad you're doing better. The great pharma paradox never ceases to amaze me; they fix some problems and create others and all you can do is pick your poison.

Only med I take is a very occasional Advil for sinus pressure. Murders the stomach though so I try to keep it to less than once a month.

I'm on the same regiment - Coumadin

I had a blood clot in 1997 in my leg. After a full blood analysis, they told me I had Protein C Deficiency (Protein C deficiency is a disorder that increases the risk of developing abnormal blood clots; the condition can be mild or severe. Individuals with mild protein C deficiency are at risk of a type of blood clot known as a deep vein thrombosis (DVT).)

I take either 2.5mg or 5mg during the week. I'm suppose to keep my pro-time numbers between 2 and 3. I've been lucky so far. I'm one of the few that go in for testing - once every 3 months. The trick is to keep your diet pretty much the same. I have to eat a salad every day. If I fail, then the number goes up due to the vitamin K interaction.

Now if my hemorrhoids would go away...

You know the drill. Your INR can be stable for years, then just go out of whack, which is what happened to me 3 weeks ago. Went to ER thinking I may have had a heart attack, turns out it was a coumadin overdose. The dosage didn't change.

Best wishes to you. I really hope you don't develop venous ulcers, which is something that I've been living with off and on for the past 12+ years. Including the ulcer that's been hounding me for the past 3+ years.

I've been lucky so fare with my INR. I recently got my medical insurance to buy me a home test kit. It's called CuaguSense. IT SUCKS. Even my Coumadin person that test me, she had difficulty using the kit. So I called them to let them know that I'm not happy with this kit, and I want the same one that is used at the Coumadin Clinic where I go for testing. Now just waiting to get the replacement.

So have your ulcers been caused by taking Coumadin?

The docs won't say what caused the ulcers, other than the valves in my left leg aren't working properly. They aren't pumping the blood back to my heart, so it just pools in my leg. Even though I've been wearing compression socks and try to keep my feet elevated whenever practical, the ulcers would form. With 3 to 6 months of wound care, they would heal. But not this current one.

I also have to wear support socks. Here are what my legs look like below. The red area is very sensitive to touch. It hurts like a MF if hit hard. I also have to keep my legs elevated when sitting down. I did go in once to have a faulty valve fix so the redness would go away, but it never did so I never went back for another shot. At this point in time, I'll be 65 in May and I don't want to do any more about it - I'll just live with it.

It's hard finding a decent set of support socks. Been trying different companies, but the quality sucks. Most don't last more that 6 months.

Might want to try Under Armour Sport socks.
I got them for my son playing sports(football and baseball) and he still wears them many years later. A tad expensive if buy local(8 to 10 a pair). He was a sweaty kid and needed a quality sock. Not sure the tightness you need.

I believe they were heat gear over the calf.

I found their site, but the sock you mentioned seems to be of lower quality now. All the reviews are similar to this one for that type of sock:

Quote:
I have been an UA fan for years! Use to be best socks ever. Now, quality is not the same! Why reduce the quality. Socks won't stay up anymore...use to be the best boot socks ever....never use to slip or slide down! BRING BACK THE QUALITY PLEASE!!!
That is one of the problems with these socks lately for the ones I've been buying. They don't stay up around the knee, BUT I did order a pair to try them out. The majority of the reviews were a few years back so maybe they changed.
