Default Wolfdogs...

Yep...these things:

Name:	wolfdog.jpg
Views:	6

ID:	14557

They're big, charismatic, highly social and extremely intelligent; with their bigger brains, stronger muscles, and teeth and jaws many times more powerful than any dog’s, they’re also quite dangerous, capable of killing an elk, a moose, even a bison.

They're also illegal in Alabama, Arkansas, California, Delaware, Florida, Idaho, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, South Dakota and Virginia. Some States leave it to Counties and/or municipalities to regulate them.

I understand that there are few real hybrid dog/wolf animals out there; it's estimated that 70% of the dogs out there have little or no wolf content, although breeders charge $2,500 for them. Genuine Wolfdogs or not, owners say they could look between their paw pads and look at their teeth — and give them tummy rubs — but never forgot what they really were.

Anyone have any first-hand experience with them?

They must be what they use in movies when they want a wolf for something. Awesome animal.

There is/was someone on corvetteforum that works with them.
Name was wolfdogs, IIRC.
Looked like Hulk Hogan in his Avatar.

All dogs are wolves.

100%.

Their DNA is identical, because they are in fact the same identical species.

Breeding changes appearance and other things but it does not change that simple fact.

A blacksmith here in town has one. She's half wolf and half something else, I don't remember what. She looks like she's all wolf, and she is freaking huge! She's as friendly as she can be, but she is still half wolf and her owner keeps her well trained. He's had her a while now, she's probably in her golden years.

I used to have one. 7/8ths Canadian Timber Wolf. Big male about 140lbs. Amazing animals. His eyes were eerie. Seldom barked, but would howl at the drop of a hat. Loved cold weather and would sleep out in the snow. Loved to play rough. Very protective of my wife and would do anything to gain her attention. Ravenous appetite. We'd bring him whole leg bones from the butcher shop. He would snap them to get to the marrow.

I never could bring myself to get another dog after he passed. Nothing could ever replace him.

There is a guy in my neighborhood who has one. She is pretty old now.
Not very wolflike, but the sweetest disposition.
