Unofficially, a 68 Beetle. The official lessons/driving test was on a mid 80s Dodge Aries POS.

'61 Mercedes 220S. Dark Red version of this. 6 cyl, 4 spd column shift, no power-robbong accessories whatsoever.

Wife learned on her dad's '73 Coupe deVille. Affectionately nicknamed the banana boat.

On the farm. First with an old Ford tractor, then an old Chevy pickup. My first car was a 57 Chevy that I got in 1967.

Switched off between a 73 Impala and a 70 Eldorado.

but I had a pretty good clue about driving from hot-rodding around in a go-kart.

First lessons with dad, UWF parking lot (empty most of the time), 1965 VW Bug.

I still kinda miss that car! Was so frickin' cool! ZERO accessories!! Dirt simple.

Other than that, I did pretty well in it.
I had a flat tire one night, so put the spare on.

But for some reason a snow tire on the right front was noticed right away by Dad.

Busted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Dad was a used car dealer so beats me what I learned to drive with.

I use to just sit on his lap and steer, he worked the gas and brakes in the early days.

About age 7 he bought me a used Go Kart that I practiced with on a dirt track in a field.

By age 10 he bought a racing Kart and we went racing from then on every week.

My first car was a 57 Pontiac Chieftain with Tri Power that I never got to drive, Dad wound it out and threw a rod in it the first night out that he was planning to let me drive.. It sat in the driveway for about a year till he sold it.

Bought my own first car at age 14 for $50, it was a 61 Impala and a great looking car, but didn't run. all it needed was the points cleaned and reset.

Drove that thing all over the place until Dad found out I had it..

I got lucky when I was 14 -- my dad got a WHUHA and bought a brand new 1967 Camaro. 327 three on the tree.

He didn't get smart and hide the keys when they went out, so I learned quickly how to drive a stick and do wheel-hopping burnouts.

1972? Buick LeSabre with the 454 4 barrel in it. That car became mine for 250$ when I got my license. Would chirp the tires going from second to third at about 90mph.

It lasted about 9 months before the rear tranny seal took a crap. Had about 94k miles on it when I got it. I sold it for $450. I still wish to this day I had kept that big block.

Edit: Just checked with Mom on this. 1970 Wildcat with the 455 in it.
